This is my first BMX build since the 80's.
Last summer I posted a "Wanted" ad on Retrobike.com for a delta II frame & fork or full bike, to my surprise  I had a response and within a couple of weeks made a trip to Suffolk to pick it up. Having now collected most of the components for the build I stripped it down last night, chuffed that nothing was seized :)
Here it is:

-
Liking that too :) what colour parts you going for on it ?
-
Looks in good nic that :)

Cheers for positive comments guys.

I am going to change the decals to the earlier black and gold ones and then will be using black components including Skyway Tuff II's.
Unsure though of tires, I quite like the idea of completely black ones but most from the 83-85 era seem to be skin wall, any thoughts as to what might work?
-
Remember having some Michelin all black tyres, like the Raleigh shopper white walls but all black, got some pics somewhere of em on my bike

This was my Take on the Delta 2

You have a great start there and I am looking forward to seeing her mature
-
That's a great frame. Really nice tubes. I think it would look well just black and silver. :daumenhoch:

Very nice Brett, some great gear on yours, do you still have it?
Stickers removed from mine today and head set swapped for an Epoch Mori. Not in too much of a hurry though as I have yet to source the tyres, chain and a crank.
Thanks for the positive feedback on the proposed silver/black color scheme .
-
Yes I still have it. It now has genuine CWs on her though. Still all shiny and never ridden

Mine too will have original CW's (or so the tatty stickers say), they were one of the few parts on it when I bought it that will be staying, will post up a picture of it in it's former guise tomorrow.
Good to hear it is still spanking. In two minds myself as to whether to ride it or stare at it......probably end up doing both!
-
This is how it looked when I bought it (although had no grips so I initially put some MTB ones on)

Of these parts I will be using the frame & forks, CW bars and the spider, may have to use the crank if I have not sourced a decent one-piece in time.

Didn't want to use a flash as the chrome is far from perfection! That is not to say I am not happy with how things are going so far ;D
-
Looks lovely mate, chrome looks good, and it looks much better with those decals. :coolsmiley:
-
Nowt wrong with that chrome for a 30 yr old f&f. :daumenhoch:
Looking good. ;)
-
Very nice mate.
I remember seeing one posted with tuffs a few year ago. I can't remember what site it was on but it looked pretty good actually.
I think the black tyres would make it out of era with them been a late 70's or new school thing.
Obviously what ever makes you happy is best. :coolsmiley:

I remember this ride, tried to buy it but seller wanted to much
Looked as it would clean up sweet - and it looks the nuts now with the new decals
-
Cheers guys, pleased you like it.

Been considering this one too and have reached the conclusion that tan wall is the way to go. I am going to ride this one so have gone for re-issue comp 3's (fat/thin). The bike's components will be a mix of NOS, survivor and some reproduction gear.

I meant to post up pictures some time ago (summer 2014), but once the build was complete I lost my way a little......

Nice build... gets a big yes yes from me. :daumenhoch:
The snake post gets a big no no tho I'm afraid. "nono"
-
Very nice is that mate :daumenhoch:
Have to agree on the snake post though :-\
-
Yes indeed, a sweet build, but agreed on the post, needs a straight one. :daumenhoch:
-
I put one of those seats on my first build
Soon swapped it out though
-
Nice bike by the way :daumenhoch:
-
Cheers guys, I knew the post was going to be contentious and agreed it looks **** but does make for a good riding position. This was going to be a rider but on having a quick spin round the garden it became evident that the brakes are next to useless, I'm sure my Araya 7X rims from BITD were much better at stopping than these Skyways (even considering the extra two stone of load). Any thoughts as to how I might improve the braking?
Also any suggestions for a post and saddle that might suit......Uni.......?
-
All OS brakes are pretty poor mate, as you've mentioned, none of us are what we weighed aged 13 anymore.
Tuffs are worse than alloys, better if you add new school type pads, such as Xposure, but these squeal like a pig. "nono"
I always put a single brake (rear) with my alloys, and use tan DC blocks, they seem to be ok for me, and I'm nudging 15 stone. :daumenhoch:
