Morning everyone. Well its more like afternoon but ive had a lie in today.
Ive recently taken on a set of black widow crank arms as a little project and am wondering if anyone knows of any replacement spindles that are compatible with them. Theyre the hex type and thus far ive only found the square type. Cheers . Doug
-
don't know if they fit but the prolite stealth cranks have a hex axle.
-
The prolite ones are the same as Primo hollowbites which use a 22mm axle. Not sure the black widows are that big?
-
pretty sure the widows run a 19mm axle.
-
Im pretty sure they are the standard black widows and not the phat black widows so im guessing itll be a 19mm axle. Ive looked at a few shimano bb/axles and theyre also all square types as far as ive seen.
-
just checked my prolite stealth cranks and they have a 19mm hex axle.
-
cheers john, unfortunately though they too are pretty hard to find now which is a bugger as I remember them being quite popular a few years back.
im pretty sure jad cranks have a hex axle too but that would be a very different and expensive road to go down. :bellend:
-
Jad cranks have a six splined axle ... same fitment as single pinch flights.
-
cheers hutchman I didn't know that. im still trying to find a way to get these beauties working again, the chance of an original black widow axle popping up on the market is pretty slim and as ive just discovered, the prolite stealth cranks of both varieties seem to be slim pickings too. im now considering making one but only as a last ditch.

if you do go the route of getting one made... give me a shout... got a complete NOS set. :daumenhoch: can give you all the dimensions you want.
-
ill say a big fat yes to that mate. may as well get the ball rolling.

i,d be willing to let these go for £30 posted, their nos with all hardware. a few storage marks but nothing too bad. i don't have a bb to try on it to make sure a 19mm bb will fit but the measurement looks right. if the axle doesn't fit your black widow cranks then i'd be happy for you to send them back for a full refund. :daumenhoch:

Ahhhh mine are the older ones with 22mm axles
-
ok.. here goes.. axle, end to end 133.5, dia 19, across the flats on the hex 17.4, length of hex(minus relief) 20, length of flat(with relief) 21.3, portion of spindle for bearings(the 19mm portion-minus relief) 89.5. all in mm. Hope this helps :daumenhoch:
-
wicked stuff buddy thanks for that. ill put a drawing together and send it back to you at some point to make sure ive got the right end of the stick.
ive just noticed your post john and ill take you up on that too. its worth a punt before I get stuck into some complicated axle fashioning of my own.
