My best pal from school Vin Smith came up with an idea, I loved it and suggested we build it out of BMXs. Fifteen seconds later I realised it would be too expensive so I had a re think and and it came to me, Grifters. I love the Grifter I own a perfect Mk1 1977 but they are plentiful, cheap, the same size as a BMX and have an interesting frame design too.
Anyway we bought 8 had them blasted and......

We are building a new one now which should be easier than the last one and wait until you see the tie fighter!

....how crazy fookin awesome is that  ....... :slayer: This is ...like perfect, if you have the room for it, like in a bar or so. Next one a tad less stylized front, and i can see that x-wing flying! >oo<
-
The next one we build isn't going to be powder coated we are leaving all the grifter decals on . The body had to be stylised grifters are made of 100% solid lead so its a rough representation. Glad you like it though

Really nice, very well done, not sure the missus would like it in the lounge though :LolLolLolLol:
I built a 10 speed grifter back in the day, used to be about 5 a week turn up at the local tip, I used the twin down tubes to run the gear cables with braised on lugs, it was a fast grifter with a 52 chainring, had to dish the Araya 7x rim right over to get the cog set on though, it had a pro neck stem, gt pro bars and a viscount seat., can't remember where i got the seat post from but i think under the standard big foam seat was a standard 22mm tube.
The frame on it's own wasn't that heavy once I removed all the standard parts including the built in side stand.
The weak part of a grifter were the forks, finding a set that weren't bent backwards was a challenge
A racer square taper crank fitted straight into the bb with no modifications, I remember breaking up a complete falcon racer to make it.

what is it :-\
