For Me...
Vintage = Pre 82
Old School = 83 - 87
Mid School = 88 - 99 (1" and early 1 1/8" HT)
New School = 00 onwards (1 1/8" HT)
-
in 95 all the shops started stocking new school bikes, aheadset, 14mm axles etc & i still see people riding standards, s&m's & haros from that era on the parks thats why i wouls class anything after that really to be new school
-
The debate could run and run... ;)

I thought that it was generally accepted that old school was up to 1985.
I`m not that sure what date you could say mid school started, it would be more the style of the bike that would determine weather it was mid school or not..........................
what you say :daumenhoch:
-
mid or old u decide lol

Mid School?
It is a little known fact that it was indeed I that came up with the title 'Mid School'
I used to frequent Vintagebmx.com right at the beginning when it was still oldschoolbmx.com
I found that none of the users on there would even entertain talking about stuff from the mid 80s and onwards (i.e. from the Neon years!)
I started riding in '79 (which was the dawn of BMX over here) but my best times where from '87 till about '95 when the sport was dead apart from your real dedicated riders and if you missed out on that era shame on you!
There was nothing to call those years (apart from the dead years) so I came up with the label Mid School (it was obvious really Old School, New School......Mid School)
So, the official line on this is
Mid School = 1987 till 1995
-
Mid school, applies to anyone whos 30+ ;)

if thats the real deal, then thats the real deal, youve heard it from the man who coined the phraze, end of!, 1987-1995
i always had in my mind it was 1989-1996, dont know why just did.
would also say vintage was pre 80 as a good few bikes in 80/81 didnt change much thro to 85/86
its a mine field :D

(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/o150/sputnicbmx/101_4652.jpg)
then i restored it to this
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/o150/sputnicbmx/DSC00001.jpg)
and a dyno slammer, sumwhere between 95 and 97 so it may be mid it may be new, but with 10mm drops my bets on mid

Nice. Define it by BMX clothes.
Mid = Post-Neon, pre-skintight.
= Acres of Denim!

I'd say 89 when the bashguard came out is the start of mid school. then up till they quit putting frame stands on bikes. after that is mid school.
that works for me.
I was gonna say when they went to 1 1/8 headsets but they still had framestands on most models.
-
I'd say 85,86 to about 95,96.
