I'm in the process of putting together a newish school bike that will be my daily rider (mostly indoor skatepark). It's a GT Dave Voelker Metal Issue but needs new wheels. I want to go down the retro look but also want it to ride well.
So my question is - what wheels should I go for? My head says some new school rims but my heart says black tuffs. Does anyone ride tuffs on their new school bike?
-
I used to run the new type of Skyway Graphites on my T1 Barcode, but they both cracked :(
And the normal ones seem to flex a bit more than they used to bitd, but thats probably down to the fact that we`re not 8 1/2 stone anymore ::)
So in short get some decent new school spokes :daumenhoch:

any set of modern 48 spoke rims will suit you
or 36's.
just make sure you get sealed hubs with a good axle length
you could go bananas spending hundreds of pounds but it wont make the ride any better
-
Or just get a set of these..

They`ve come down in price, he`s been asking £150 for those over the last year or so :daumenhoch:

silver rims ain't great - get chrome and your brakes will work much better

Or set your brakes up right and they'll work great anyway. Chrome only works well when it's dry.

my front brake is stop-on-a-dime - on a black rim. and its just a lowly hombre.
it's all in the setup!! what stops brakes working is flex.
-
good price on those wheels.
-
When did Peregrine bring out the Phat Jack hub?
Class wheels, oh yes :daumenhoch:
-
Proper 26 spoke hubs and rims...................Awsome! :daumenhoch:
-
Thanks guys. New school spokes it is then. Those Peregrine's look very tempting.....

silver or coloured rims are fine until they get wet, then the surface gets all messed up and you need to clean yer brake blocks and rims

Just measured the axle slots on my bike. The front forks seem to be 10mm and the rear drop out 14mm. Is that normal? Are they interchangable or will i need two different wheels.
-
Yeah it`s normal now days, most wheel sets come with 10mm front and 14mm rear if you ask :daumenhoch:

You'll need a front one and a back one. ;D ;)
