Title: Built just in time for MK **Starway Freemaster**
Post by: oldschoolace on July 13, 2014, 06:13 PM
A few of you may remember I picked up this Starway freemaster pro a while back. With MK just around the corner I thought it was time to pull my finger out and let the panic building begin. Just like the zeronine, there are a few special parts going on this some of which don't exist yet  :-\

It sure is Jaymz with a slight kuwi/schwinn feel too. Really nice knurling and full chromo.  :)

just need to give the chrome a final polish and it's ready to assemble.

Got given a plotter cutter yesterday so going to have a bash at some simple decals for this build. The wheelcovers need a few decals too ;)

What is it they say about an old dog and new tricks?
After a crash course on the cutter (and about 3 meters of vinyl in the bin) victory was mine  >:D

So after nearly 30 years rattling around in a manky box the nos Uni Crossfire wheelcovers looked less then factory fresh.
After average results in the nordic lodge bath with a scrubbing brush and fairy liquid i dug out my bottle of silvo and gave it a whirl  :)

(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x455/oldschoolace/DSC_0497_zps48cf103f.jpg) (http://s1182.photobucket.com/user/oldschoolace/media/DSC_0497_zps48cf103f.jpg.html)

Turns out its fookin ace at polishing plastic  :4_17_5:

I tried a bit on a clear bit of old scratched plastic after the wheels and the results were amazing considering its designed for metals  :daumenhoch:

Once i got the hang of it the homemade decals starting going on pretty easy

Thinking of a few haphazardly placed stickers. A'me, Odi etc what do we think? Or should i keep them clean looking?  :-\

Go for it, a frame looks naked without any decals/stickers

Had a set on my vector for MK09, looked proper comedy, had to take them off

Like em clean looking Clint, you'd really need a set of Olympic to do the sticker thang
Title: Re: MK is coming time to finally get this built **Starway Freemaster**

Further adventures up at the nordic lodge produced a hard fought yet satisfying set of home brew decals with a slight early mid school flavour.
I made some smaller ones for the seat or chainstays but i think it will be too much once the wheels, chain, brakes etc are on.
The forks have threaded peg holes so would make decals awkward but i could run them on the bars  :-\

The eagle eyed may have spotted the little nod to vintage road bikes with the blue tape. It seemed the best way to finish the powder to chrome joint  :)

Just realised I'm going to have to fashion some sort of twin cable guide to anchor off the single one on the down tube. Just as I was making a dent in the list of jobs for this build  ::)

Didnt have time to sort the gable guide today but did get round to modding and polishing the weinmann 750.
I plan on running twin cables to it so i ground off the stubby pin that runs in the rear arm slot to make the arms pull evenly.

In case anyone is wondering about the graboid calipers its pinched from the film tremors  ;)

It works with an internal actuator rod in the steerer tube running thought a linear bearing. A similar principle to the setup a few trickstars run with the suntour roller cams  :daumenhoch:
