Hi all
I run a competition every year at Huntingdon Skate park for the local community kids. It is very well supported by local authorities and business. I have prizes donated from the likes of Billy's of Cambridge and other bicycle shops, t shirts from full house and we have anything up to 250 kids on BMX, Skateboards, blades and pesky scooters.
The park has a large Mini, nice box, various sized quarters, flat banks, rails and is very flowey.
It will be taking place on Saturday September 20th at Stukeley meadows sk8 park, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire from 12pm. Trade stands, MC / DJ Music, food, Show and Shine modified / Classic cars and apart from the food its all free! !
Kinda testing the water here.
Who would be up for a masters class? 35 years old and over?
Just to show these kids where it all began.
I have a meeting this Saturday so if you think you fancy it let me know ASAP.
Thanks all
Ady

Alright Ady
Nice to meet you at MK ... top effort to drive home to pick your bike up as well :daumenhoch:
There may well be a few who would want to compete in a comp format ... but I'd say you'd have more takers in a 'jam' format ... less pressure and then just pick a 'best trick' and 'best rider' from say and hours riding if you need to :)
Cheers
Ed
FYI you were riding with The Crow ( Jol ), Lenny-lentini, Spen69, TrickyRichdeno, Gary72, DirtyVans, Stuntmaster and Splodge

Hey Ed
Great to meet you too.
We usually run a jam format. 4 to 5 minutes with 10 rider's max. The park is more than big enough without constant near missis.
I can run it how ever people want. I just really want to get together oldskool riders and show the kids that age is no excuse
Thanks
Ady

Ady, it was good to meet you mate and the annual competition looks a great day out :daumenhoch:
The only thing is, you saw us ride - we're all knackered after two or three runs at the quarter and spend most of our time taking the pish out of each other, trying to get our breath back :2funny:
I think the idea of some of us tyring to put on a bit of a display wouldn't be entertaining to anyone but us lot - maybe show the kids what they'll end up like if they party too much, don't get enough sleep, work too hard and eat bad food :LolLolLolLol:
-
That as the case may be, It would be a wicked day out. I could restrict the MASTERS runs to 2 minutes?
By that time everyone would have forgotten why they came "wantit"
-
Ive just landed the event another sponsor giving away pedals and headsets
All I need now is some boys to represent the old skool 😉 :slayer:
-
Cant think if I working that day, But if I'm not I will make the trip up. Not sure about riding though. :-[
-
Ok chaps
After a productive meeting with the other organisers and sponsors if I get 5 riders for the Masters class 35 yrs and over we are on.
After riding with such an enthusiastic bunch last week at MK I would hope getting 5 should be easy.
It will be a very chilled comp with focusing on fun. I will run it how ever you like, jam session or individual runs.
Please PM me if you are interested

:2funny: Just spilt my tea! I'd be well up for it but its a bit of a way for me coming from Bristol.

Just thinking actually... when im mucking about doing balancing tricks & the odd cherry picker at the local park I often get 4 or 5 'newskool' lads coming over watching and looking amazed as they have never seen anything like it before, they often have a go but with no brakes & a low seat that you cant hold when your bars are turned means a lot of old school stuff isnt possible.
Makes me realise that really old basic tricks like endos etc just arnt practised anymore & people love it! I even had a couple of Mums ask if I could teach their lads stuff & they'd pay me!
Although it may be old & pretty tame to us compared to new school riding it is totally different & people love to see it, we could easily do a demo...if it was a bit closer :'(

It's funny, cause at the meeting I said about some old skool tricks and attendance.
Apparently that would be cool AND sick!! :slayer:
-
Sounds good fun, it's a long way for me though for a bit of bmx. South yorks and cambs are miles apart.
-
So two competitiors so far. (Me being one) :LolLolLolLol:
-
If I can swap Saturdays at work, I'll come and have a roll around.

I'm happy and shocked at the amount of support I have been given for prizes,
Billy's of Cambridge have given heaps of ts, pedals, handlebars, grips, caps, skate trucks and scooter bars. OBP have more pedals sealed headsets, Ts, stickers etc
Including other donations I must have a grands worth of prizes. We must be doing something right!!
Get over th Huntingdon this Saturday, if not to ride, only to watch!!

Any pics of the park and a postcode please :daumenhoch:

No Edd, thats in another local village.
Pics from the 2012 comp can be found here....
http://huntingdonskatepark.wordpress.com/gallery-2012/
That will give you an idea of the park, and the shear volume of attendees (mainly rats on scooters :D )
The postcode is PE29 6HF
Look out for STS Tyre shop and park in the office blocks next door. Simply cross the road through the alley opposite and turn left. I imagine you will hear the music from your car so just follow the tunes. I have instucted the DJ the Masters class ride to some old skool electro for that added nostalgia.
As said, the park consists of various roll ins, a nice jump box, hips, small and large quarters, a large mini ramp which would class as a half pipe BITD, flat banks and more.
Anyone attending that may get lost or have questions call me on 07517 020986
Thanks
Ady

Hi all
It was a good day with around 120 competing, down on last year but I guess some had been put off by the earlier grim weather.
I arrived at the park at 7.30am and was back and fourth picking up prizes, my other car to display until it kicked off around 12.30
I spent a vast amount of my time on the MIC commentating and even put a shout out if we had any RAD BMX members in?
I got home around 6.30 / 7pm. Voice shot, body knackered and feeling elderly.
It really opens your eyes to see just how talented / insane some of the locals are and how the sport has progressed.
Seeing some of the little rippers (10years old) airing out of the quarters with a big old grin makes all the prep and head aches worth it!
We already have plans for next years event so I'll keep you posted.
We had an official event photographer so I'll rob some images later.
