*** NOW FINISHED **** SCROLL DOWN! *****
----------------------------------------------------------
Just picked this up after spotting it badly listed on ebay, collection only, but my uncle lived real near :-)
Not a massive GT man so didn't know much about it ... just saw the SuperPros and thought 'that's a bargain' !!!
Should be getting it later in the week... first job ... a nice soak in Citric acid!

Dai Leisure? tell me more Dan.
Is it a KHE bashguard?
-
Dai Leisure advertised in Ride mag in the 90's Ed - they went from a 1 page ad to a two page in the later 90's, but used to offer parts and completes (including ones they built themselves from the parts they sold). That Standard you picked up for Olly was one of the complete bundles they used to offer.
They were pretty decently priced to be honest, and truefact - they turned me down for credit in the 90's as I was a scumbag pot smoking student at the time.
Looking again though at that GT it might well not be a Dai special, be nice if it was though.
That grinddisc is either a KHE or a Teethgrinder one :daumenhoch:

Thanks for the info bud ... you a pot smoking hippy! NO!
I'm sorry to say that if it is one of those UK Toothgrinder ones then the Gay Sailor Olly has first dib dobs on it ... like I'd ever sell something I'd just bought anyway!!!!! the inference!

Least if it goes to The Grinch it'll mean it's a new world record - Olly smiling twice in one year :LolLolLolLol:

Wanted a quick turnaround on this so I popped into Wilkos for a bottle of that new RESTOREITRITE stuff from MidskoolJohn Ltd Inc...
[attachment=1]
Following the instructions I filled up the bath and stuck the whole bike in ...
[attachment=2]
20 minutes later I pulled it out and was totally amazed ... popped down the front in Costa del Melton and got a couple of pics on the sand ... stunning I'm sure you agree ...
[attachment=3]
Piece of pi$$ this resto lark.

I like your patio Ed ;D Will be up for some banana daiquiris on the 'chez-longe' sometime.
Looks like it is a Teeth Grinder - think the KHE's have a ridge round the edge of em. Shame your last name's not 'Case' as well:

Think we missed the rather obvious Spanner shaped decal mark Dan :( Young Olly's keen eyes spotted it.

Fatty's dibbed that already too!

Getting my hands on this today
-
That's the sort of wee project I like :daumenhoch:
-
as I said to Gav... just stripped it down ... it came apart like it was yesterday ... dont think it had ever been changed since it was built ... very chuffed with some very nice parts ... the only thing that's stuck in is the seat post .. got that soaking in some WD40 tonight :-)
the BEST best bit was that I couldn't believe the former owner had peeled off the headtube sticker to put a VW sticker on ... so that fuker had to come off ... :knuppel2: :knuppel2: :knuppel2: :knuppel2:
I gently teased it off to reveal a beautiful mint headtube decal and a circle of lush chrome underneath :4_17_5:

Nosepickben ... Haro Lover 4 life ;D
it came with superpros on ... been shopping around to find a chromers that will do alloy rims ... No one!
so I'm going to get them anodized :daumenhoch: good enough
regards riding it ... I'm sticking to my Subrosa for riding .. my little head gets confused with anything else ... had another little skate last night and that was hard enough ... I can't be a transformer ^"^
its either off to Gav Davis or GTDemon on the museum ...
-
Blimey, it came with super pros eh..?? darn good score then. Just see that it gets a good home. I like them, a little bit.
I'm going to get 2 chevrons tattooed on my chest tomorrow. Not.

They are rough as fook tho mate :) nice little resto job tho ... just can't find anyone who can chrome alloy rims? been told no one does it in the UK.
-
Awesome result Ed. That cleaned up really well. :daumenhoch:
-
Come up real nice that Ed. :daumenhoch:
Pm Andy dancetothedrummersbeat sure he's got an alloy part of some description being chromed at the moment. He may have the answer to your question. ;)

Ed. .
A.C.F Howell and also Reeve Metal Finishing (both midlands based) can slap some chrome on aluminium :)
.....You just pay a premium for the service....grrrr. im looking to get a rim chromed too soon if you wanted to chuck them in together? Depends what works out best really :daumenhoch:

Rang ACF Howell today ... spoke to Mark ... was told no way ... was told they never do chroming on alloy bike rims and no one in the uk does ... was told that just polishing was the way to go ... go figure?
-
Just seen dttdb's thread.... don't listen to me.... just waffling shite. :crazy2:
-
Well thats mega random cos Mark quoted me £120 to do the pair....but that was a couple of months ago so maybe theyve changed their ways? Try Reeve.....its worth a go :)
Polishing is definitely sweet and a lot cheaper but obviously not as durable :daumenhoch:
-
weird that ... I said they'd be recommended and he said 'well I don't know who told you that! we never do it'
he went on so much that it made me suspicious ... perhaps they just cant be fooked.
Gonna just go with anno :daumenhoch: need to get the shot chrome off first tho
-
I asked at ACF Howell earlier this year and he told me they won't chrome alloy rims. Something about them being too old and not strong enough.
-
Hockley do em.
-

i'm not paying £120 tho ... cwayzee

Yer. I'm intrigued what was in that 'acid' bath you did the frame in. Worked a treat!

Its a close to Magic as you will get :) theres several threads on here about it but here's the basics
- decided you want to get all the rust of 'a thing' the easy way
- On ebay, buy yourself 500g of Oxalic or Citric Acid ( powdered )
- buy or make a waterproof bath that is large enough to hold you stuff
- add bricks ( or similar ) in the spaces so you need less water
- mix ALL the oxalic/citric into a bucket of the hottest tap water you can get ( mix well )
- pour on top then keep adding hot water till it covers everything
- leave for 12 hours then pull parts out and check... wash with soapy water ( wash well and rinse well to get the scid off - I run a hose through the frame to flush well ) ... rust gone!
( you may need to easy hardcore lumps off with a stanley - if theres still rust on there leave immersed for another few hours)
:)
I used a big dog bed and a tent ground sheet - check the first post of the thread ... see the seat post ... that came up a treat

these bits were heavily rusted but now just need a good polish

Cool. Thanks! I got an original and very rusty pro performer needs some loving next year.
I'll try this perhaps to see if I can run it as a survivor first.

it removes the rust with no effort at all .. but ... if the rust has eaten through the chrome then theres nothing much you can do ... but at least you'll get it looking as good as possible before you make a decision. :daumenhoch:
eg. the forks ... very heavy rusting on the insides ... all the rust has gone but still pitted :-)

Going back to thread start and seeing good old Barnsley mentioned! I used to live in Huddersfield road '90-95 or '96. Went to Barnsley college after being made redundant at Maplin. Barnsley Electric Theatre for stage tech, then HND Music Technology with Bob. I had that pro performer with me then! Ring any bells?

Nice project Ed :daumenhoch:
Hockley have chromed my super pros before and tbh £120 isnt a unreasonable price
Silverbronz in Alton Hampshire will also do super pros but your looking at £200 but they are a classic motorbike and car chromer and when i spoke to them they said that once done they would be in perfect show condition
