Maybe try a set of the later Mushroom grips that have the bigger hole?
I will be interested in this as I was thinking of doing a Grifter/BMX hybrid and keeping the 3 speed hub and twist grip.

I don't remember grifter grips being odd-sized
If they were though, you could always try some of those oury MX grips..?

mushroom grips will be no good the ribs go the wrong way for smooth anal insertion, a 4mm allen key will be ideal to scrape the skiddy sweetcorn outa the grooves on that  :LolLolLolLol:

sorry, but it does look like a rubble chute violator  :D

You can get 8 - speed hubs from sturmey with disc or coaster attachments, I looked into it but would have a serious weight issue especially after frame mods so forgot that idea

What about trying a Mk3 Chopper 3 sped grip? They are probably nearer to BMX grip size. I've got one at my Mum & Dad's house. I'm off over there at dinner time. I'll have a weigh up.

Anyone know if the grifter grip is 22.2mm internal diameter?

To be fair the one you've got looks better. Could you heat up a grip in hot water and slide it over the one that's on the gear selector?

should be fine , I fitted a grifter sturmey  to a set of GT pro bars and I removed the grip by cutting it off and fitted a ODI mushroom :daumenhoch:

I remember that being talked about, but never saw a pic of it finished
Might be worth a shot if I do another build as I now live on a big fookin hill

Slightly oversized, I put burner plastic/foam grips on my grifter when I was a kid, it was a right bollock of a job, but I was 11!.

Mushrooms will be easy, as would most rubber grips, the old MK1 burner grip `cores' were quite rigid!

I also put Fuan cobra grips on it, which was fooking shite as the gear side moves!!

I remember having to cut off the grifter grip with a junior hacksaw (hard as nails)
