we have been blessed with getting a cycling hub track thing due to the success of Steven burke who is a local to our area. a few years ago, they built a BMX track close to it and the way it was designed , it never took off. Its too short, not enough distance between the jumps ( if you could call them jumps) and it doesnt flow very well. No Im only in the early stages but i was thinking of approaching my local council to see if they would consider widening and possibly making it bigger so that once its built, you will get people to use it. Far too ofetn they spend money on silly projects but neglect our youth, then wonder why they say theres nothing for them to do. I live in Nelson (Lancashire) and I personally think something like this coupled with our bike track would do woinders for our area. Plus it would be great to play on the track myself. If it was you, what other things would you do to try and persuade the powers that be, to invest in it. Many thansk for reading. :daumenhoch:

apologies for the spelling mistakes, plus the way it comes across, words just come out of my head straight onto the screen without any thought so it may or may not make sense, rambling is the technical term i believe

Shouldn't be too much of a problem actually. In terms of cost, revamping an existing track will be pennies compared to the construction of a brand new hub.
Get some interest brewing (a facebook page is always a winner) and get the name of the council officer looking after the hub project. Go directly to them and put your case forwards.
It will make little sense to them to leave an underused facility nearby when they can basically add an additional cycling attraction to the area for little money. After all, it's all just bike riding.
Plus, there is a fairly big buzz still surrounding BMX after the Olympics.

No worries. I'm in the business, so always keen to see stuff getting the right attention.
Good luck!

Cheers buddy, makes me laugh at how much money some councils waste on tat but wont invest in things that actually do some good! ???

Yep!
Skateparks are cheap. It's the sport itself that's misunderstood and it always brings the NIMBYs out of the woodwork when one is proposed.
I have clients that can get £100k funding for a swing & slide set far easier than they can get £1k to repair a ramp.....

Get in touch with phil at dirtworks bmx. He's in the north west, rochdale area.

Bit of an update for you.
Having had some very nice chaps off here PM me about who to contact and what groups I should join, Ive created this Facebook page.
The amount of help Ive been offered has been truly amazing, the BMX community is flippin awesome.
Anyhow, Ive had some pretty influential people contact me and also some local businesses offering support by way of T shirts and promotion. Plus theres an offer form the kind egentleman from dirtworks to come and have a look over
Id like to thank all of the people, some of whom are on here such as Dark Diggler :smitten:, Boff, Custard Lips and all those who have contributed to this thread. Much love to you all
If you would like to stop by and share the page with everyone you know, that would be brilliant.
Cheers everyone
