Hi all
I know this is a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question but.......... What's the going rate on a re chrome? I only ask as I'm getting quoted hugely varying prices! It's for a full prep and finish by the way!
Many thanks

But the question remains...
Who's the best...

Allenchrome electro plating ltd, have a look at the sticky above in this section.
Just give him the frame and he will do the rest :daumenhoch:

I've just used London Chroming on the Old Kent Road, sawf london. Excellent results, but not cheap.
Better than one of the other recommendeds on here who re-chromed some bars and a set of redline 400's and within a monthi both were flaking.....can't comment on Allenchrome as haven't used them.

btw, London Chroming prepped and chromed one pair of haro freestyle bars, a redline fluted seatpost, and an rl20ii rear half and charged me £250.

Spoke to Dave @ allenchrome and I'm very reassured by what he says. He seamed very knowledgable. But north of £300 seems the going rate!

Hampshire Electroplaters are the best that i've ever come across.
They used to chrome for Curtis and Rickman and the same staff are still there today.
They understand BMX and respect stamping, welds etc. I'd wholeheartedly recommend them :daumenhoch:

I've used Hockley Chrome, Essex a few times. :)
Paid around £200 to £250 per F&F. Freestylers can be more. :daumenhoch:
-
Hockley are fooking cowboys.
-
You can pay £100 for a frame and forks if you want it to have the same finish as a Tesco shopping trolley, there is a lot of prep/polish work involved before plating , bearing in mind a lot of frames BITD weren't even polished , just dipped in nickel then chrome and had a frosty finish to them.
The chrome always reflects the prep work and so does anodising , if the metal surface has marks it just highlights these areas once coated .

There is plenty of prep required with this. To be honest I would be dubious of just how good a finish anyone would get.
I suppose it is a gamble but can't bring myself to powder it!

Dave will examine it first to see if it's good enough to chrome.

I have GT Pro Bars that are 'Stamped'...
Glad to hear this, as i want them re chromed...
May well use them...Once i get the other bits n bobs i require...
Can i ask what difference 'Super Chroming' has to normal Chroming...
I've heard the terminology on here before...

I've not heard of super chroming? I think I'll be trying allenchrome shortly. Will report back

Show chrome means that the surface underneath has been polished before nickel then chrome, this surface can't be too polished because the plate needs to attach to it.
-
Superchrome is the term used to describe the lacquer type finish laid over chrome frames like the Super Tuff Burner , Night Burner etc.
It is basically a translucent powder coat .
-
Yes your correct with this, normally flakes off eventually because it has trouble sticking to the shiny surface, looks nice when it's new though.

Normal Chroming it is then... :daumenhoch:
