The 'Vanishing Point' is my favourite of the Thruster's   :coolsmiley:

Love the back end on these.

Have a word with 'Andy68' as he may have come across 20" forks while searching for a set of 24" for himself.

Blue parts mate, have a shimano 600...blue dc 79 rear caliper .. Waiting for some araya 7c's to arrive . It's going to be a survivor build. Not sure what stem to go with?

A Tuf-neck would look great though if you're going for a Japanese flavour then I guess a Suntour Power stem.  :daumenhoch:

Tuf neck would look good, I do like power stems but have had a few over the years so would like something different ...

Lovely frame sets these are. I have nearly pulled the trigger on two of them now  :D  The fork will be very hard to come by on it's own but I will keep my eyes open for you. PM what sort of money you would like spend too.

I may have what you need stem wise. Let me know and I will get some pics to you  :daumenhoch:

Well I have scored some araya 7c's with s.i.w hubs that need a good scrub , degrease etc. Del has worked his magic with the decals and Mike(grab on kid) is currently working on a race plate . It's going to be a slow build but I like that.

Just been pricing up either white repaint or getting it chromed as per standard colours on the vanishing points or getting a custom paint job. Abd i've been looking at builds on bmx museum and there isn't a standard build so after xmas i'm going to be getting  together some top parts from bitd to put on it

The trick to part sourcing is to decide what you want.

Do you want era correct, which means trawling through online catalogues looking at road and track bikes and finding stuff that you can either use straight away or convert for use on the VP.

Or screw the era stuff and buy ready made (but not the correct year) parts like MX1000 brakes etc.

I personally go the era correct route as I find it more fun, but at the end of the day it is your bike you do what the hell you want with it.

Post by: monkeymoped on December 22, 2014, 11:48 AM
I think i'm going to try and  source era parts so i'm logged into bmx museum's forum to .but quite a high percentage of thrusters have mx1000 on
i can't find a full proper part spec for them so i'm assuming they can just as framesets

MX1000's were introduced in the late 70's so that is an option, just make sure it is stamped on the back with the correct year.  However you can go the 1020 caliper route or Shimano etc.  Look at weird stuff like Hare Trigger levers, maybe centre pull brake can be utilised (I have done a couple of bikes with centre pull brakes).  I always look outside of the box, as it is usually a lot cheaper that way.

Crank wise, look at Campagnolo, Ofmega, SR, Cook Bros etc, something exotic and drilled would be lovely.

For real rarity, try and find (read afford) a Thruster stem, they are ace looking, rare as hens teeth and incredibly expensive.

God I love this part of a build, where you have the main frame but deciding on the route to follow.

I'm in the same boat as you bud as 70's parts is new to me as I've always gone early 80's so I'm having a lot of fun looking for parts and researching ,check some of the rides on here for inspiration....  Check this out as there are some wicked rides

I haven't updated for a while, build has changed direction. Frame powdered by SBD, went back to white as the chromoly was
Non existsent. The plan was to go blue parts but I scored some red grab ons from Mike(appreciate they are not 70's) and then got a haro handle, red kashimax and shimano rear. Decals will be red , still a few parts to get but it's going to be a slow build.

Haven't updated for a while ...

Bought a super maxy crank to find its French thread so got some lypotard pedals, may go for some ofmega at some point. Laced my araya 7c's to some suzue low flange, need tightening/ truing.

Blue plate is not staying and will get a red one me thinks. Was going to go red caliper but think it may be to much red so will go for raw. Forks need powdering , getting there...slowly

SBD has the forks so shouldn't be long. Then strip down , grease, rebuild and go for a spin.

Then onto the next one  :slayer:
