I got a super maxy 3 piece crank,it seemed it wouldnt take any 9/16 pedal spindle so i take it that the threads were fooked,i ended up forcing the right pedal on and could only get the left one on 3/4 of the way on,can anyone tell me what tap & die i need to get to try to get this back to as normal as i can get it,i don't really want to take it to an engineering workshop coz god know's what they would charge...have any of you guys had this problem? if so did you get the tap & die's of fleabay if so can you send me a link to it or from where ever you got them, dont really want to pay dear for these...
Cheers guys :daumenhoch:

In my experience if you can find a little guy who operates out of a little lock up or whatever, talk nicely to him and the charge will be negligible, could be far more cost effective let alone time effective, just my opinion.

9/16 pedal taps needed but before buying something you'll probably never use again, try your local bike shop as the bike mechanics will normally have them.
-
Cheers Andy, going to try the bike shop tomorrow and see what they can do :daumenhoch:

Try putting the pedal on from the other side of the crank to see if you can clear the thread. Also try greasing the threads before you start.
-
Will try it marty first i need to see if i can get the pedals off as there forced on :-\ lol well needs must,i had them all greased up when i was putting them on,the guy i got them of said something about them been FRENCH threaded never heard of that before, any spindle i tried it wouldnt go in :'(
-
Bugger, French threads are different, have a read of this...

Well it says not to force it in lol the pedals are well forced in,and really going to be a nightmare to remove, and if i clamp the crank arms in the vice it will just wreck the badly or what can i wrap the crank arms in to try to remove them, will need to leave them in to the local bike shop to get them to thread them the english way fook the french way the french would have to be different :D ;D
-
Right guys how can i remove the pedals from the crank arms,if i clamp them in the vice even with something wrapped around them it is still going to put marks/goudges in them, how would you guys go about doing this?
-
Put soft wood like pine between the cranks and the jaws of the vice.
-
I already wrecked the wood vice trying to do it lol
-
Use a metal vice but protect the cranks with wood ;)
-
will attempt it once i drink this coffee, just hope the spanner doesnt come off the pedals this time and i endup falling out the shed landed on a frame first on my ribs then out the door :LolLolLolLol: have 2 cracked ribs in the process and that was me forcing the pedals on :D bloody sore to breathe
-
Ive tried wood in the vice to clamp the crank arm...no good, and tried a spanner in the vice and it doesnt work either, what if i use a heat gun on the crank arms will it make the pedals come out easier?
-
Job done spindles out,now hopefully the bike shop can thread them english threads and see if they can ort the threads out on the pedals aswell :)
