Guys,
I have a pair Silver Star Comp III tyres bought to use presently on my 83 Cruiser Build albeit with age the Skinwalls have faded out and the actual comp III label now barely visible.
I managed to restore the colour back into the sidewalls and I am made up how well they look albeit need a bit of advise on how to tackle reinventing the labels, I think it's a green and silver type albeit not completely sure, defo not yellow label.
Any help guys..

Let's see some pics then!
I reckon you could make the labels into transfers like the ones you used to get on airfix kits.
I believe you can buy the stuff in sheets and print on it with an inkjet.
Although probably no good in the wet but you could brush clear varnish over it to protect I suppose....

Cheeky picture of my phone.
This is how they looked when I bought them, as you can see the walls are faded with age albeit they are in good condition over all with almost unworn tread pattern.

I will put some pics up this morning of them with the walls restored and the area of the faded label, your idea could work pal... I was thinking of a stencil print ..?

Walls restored and the decal remnants I want to restore next.

How did you do that then? Trade secret or can you tell all? :daumenhoch:

Nice work looks nearly new :4_17_5:
This sort of thing to make the decals with, though you would only need one sheet...

No none of the above methods. :(.
In fact I have now done the original schwinn tyres for my 81 Torker MX and the Cheng Shin for my 81 Robinson...too and there going on today... Carpet ornaments now though... ::)

Very interesting thread. I've been thinking about the very same thing over the last few weeks, as i've been after an early set of tioga comp st's with the earlier blue/green label. Was thinking about buying some later ones from 87 onwards and re-poping the earier labels. Cant wait to see the finished resuts!
-
Whats the trick then ??

Gotta be something from the sex trade, rubber and staying moist.

Right lads you've waited long enough and I am struggling with this label stuff, this is how I got my results.
1. Wash the tyre in Fairy liquid and using a cloth and warm water/ fairy scrub the walls with care not to scrub to hard and fur up the nylon... :daumenhoch:
2. Allow to dry naturally outside, not near a heat source or you may dry them out... :(
3. Apply a coat of Mid Tan boot polish and buff with a cloth.
4. Repeat twice more.
Results for me..
