[attachment=2]Hi guys, trying this again as couldn't find first post lol
This is an old pic of my 83 Superfox. Can anyone tell me what the crank on it is??
Big ask from a 30 year old pic!![attachment=1]
-
You got any better pics off it? :daumenhoch:
-
Sadly not! This is the only pic I can find which I know isn't great lol.
From what I can make out looking at the original pic the crank arms have a "stamped out" rather than flat finish with writing in them. Obviously I can't make out the writing says!!
Similar to these that don't have any writing.[attachment=1]
-
They look like Anlun or Hanabishi alloy cranks
-
would like one of those in alloy/black myself
-
Hannabishi's a good shout looking at the spider as it's the right shape.
-
Cheers guys, anyone got one for sale????
-
Spider shape certainly looks like my Hanabishi.

-
That looks gorgeous😍
However the arms are very different....
-
Can you get a better scan of that picture? Maybe a higher number of pixels (height x width)? It's just too small to see the details of the arms but my money is on Anlun. I'll have a look through my mags to see if I have an advert for the cranks I think they might be :daumenhoch:.

Here you go, on the right...

Here's the other Hanabishi version....

That looks very similar Dinglam.....
I am hoping to get another pic or two of it tonight out of the old mans album.
How do you guys post a larger pic?
When I try it comes up with an error!!
-
Unless you changed the cranks I'd be surprised if they were Japanese as MT's were Taiwanese and used Taiwanese parts, do look very similar to the Hanabishis could have been a copy of them.
Nice cranks Dinglem Hanabishis were the cranks I really wanted BITD, nearly bought a set a while back.
I use Photobucket and that's just the size the pics come out.
-
The cranks on the above Superfox (posted by rodriguez) are made by Tracer and are original to the bike.
Unless you have better pics i don't think you will ever know for sure what you had on BITD. Could be an upgrade crank (Anlun etc as already mentioned) or they could even be original cranks with original spider (or even aftermarket spider) :chin:
One thing I would say is that it looks like the original Super Duralumin chainring is present.
For example my 83 Superfox came with a standard spider and TH Industries cranks which are original to the bike -

Here is a slightly better pic -

Are the spiders attached permently to the crank arm's?
I think the Tracer ones I have are?
The crank came on the bike so most likely not a Japanese crank I would guess!
Nath your a legend buddy, big thanks mate for all your help :4_17_5:

The tracer cranks come as one piece. My TH Industries have a detachable spider :daumenhoch:
Did the bike already come with the aftermarket crank, z rims and uni seat then ?
-
No it came standard but at time of purchase we did a deal to swap the wheels for Z Rims so never got the original wheels. At a later date the Uni seat/post where bought and then later still the bars where changed for what I think where CW bars. At some point mushroom grips where also added.
Crank was never changed and was what came with the bike.
It's the only part of my attempted rebuild that I guess I will never get to the bottom of!!!
-
As an after thought does anyone know where I could get a replica pad set. Basically just "chrome" and black check.....
-
Spider shape certainly looks like my Hanabishi.
[attachment=1]
Never seen them before, what sort of money to they go for?
-
Dunno mate. I got lucky as they came with my Birmingham WHEELS when I purchased it. Took me a while to find out what they were.... Pretty rare from what I have gathered.
-
Nice and clean looking and a bit different!
-
They look like cal lite pads, you might have your work cut out getting chrome and black.
-
Ok thanks Rodriguez 😳
Back to the crank, what about Sugino as an option??
-
I know exactly what that crank is as I have two sets. They are Anlun Aero 170 with swagged in ally spider. Was standard on the Super Fox . I had a pair bitd off my mate who had one. Look in my threads buddy . There r a pair on my red and blue.MRD pro's .
Black r restored and reannodised, red r Nos .

Not a hope. :D took years too find em . There like hens teeth . Been around ten years or more and never seen anybody else use them . Bitd they were bomb proof, so strong 8)
They were also made with a steel Tioga type spider, but they look pants . Also seen the ally spider swagged onto a pair of Anlun flights which look cool :daumenhoch:
I'll find u a pic of them on my bike bitd .
Good luck with the search ;)

Didn't mean to burst your bubble but they are pretty sought after pads, I spent ages trying to find a similar set recently, BMXmuseum is your best bet, failing that Porkchop has some pretty decent pad sets.
Back to the cranks sugino GTs would probably be the easiest to get hold of but I might know where there's another set that might do.
-
Yes indeed Marty you did call it first lol.
Someone must no someone with hens with teeth.....

more reference pics 4 u :daumenhoch:
