Just got this through the post from a nice eBayer that (no offence to them) had bedecked the frame with *sicks up in gob* Burner parts:
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff443/dannywhack/PDB_zpsd4981550.jpg~original)
It's the second one in as many months I've seen appear in the wild, I've got most of the bits and bobs I need for it, but deffo need a MK1 G-Sport Fat Shaft front hub if the person who bought Tom's one wants to flog it to me :angel:
S&M did em in around late 92/93 I guess in S&M fashion as a piss-take or a practice for a piss-take (the HAF).
Anyhow, will update as it comes together :daumenhoch:
-
That might look pretty good with some burner bars and yellow popper pads :laugh:
-
Braced layback and fuan spotted grips fo sho
-
Hmmm - I've got some yellow Simplex mags kicking around......
-
Too soon for a mock-up?
[attachment=1]
-
You need to get them bars closer to the wheel for true burner fashion Dan and, you need a super long braced lay back with the seat as far back as possible :daumenhoch:
-
Seat post needs at least 2 bends in it
And a flag
-
Next question, why the feck where you searching under burner..... No need to find a front hub just gimmie that rear!
-
Hey Brother
Why not try something like this
http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,147649.0.html
and I get compliments on the hyphen.
LLP back soon.....
HaHa the Faith. L

Bit of an update, been rummaging around the loft/cellar for bits and bobs for the Burnerenrerererer. Dragged out a rear gen 1 G-Sport to Ukai Equalizer, NOS Equalizer rim and Suzue HF sealed front hub + axle kit.
Wheel building + beer Friiiiday, nom, nom.
[attachment=1]
[attachment=2]
-
Wheels look good. :daumenhoch: Lets see some of the other bits you plan to put on it.
-
Nice Danny. Keep this updated more regularly. :daumenhoch:
-
Well, finished the wheels off on Sunday. Started em Friday but too much IPA = fuzzy vision.
Bars for the bad-boy - tbh preferred these over Slams bitd but could I fook as get any from Hot Wheels:

[attachment=2]
-
It's lovely that Danny. I don't think it's pointless, I like dirt jumps and I like a good frame stand when I'm pissed, ticks all the boxes :4_17_5:
-
Cheers me old mukka - I'm gonna use the platform to hang bits of meat - win, win - bit of trails and some jerky at the end of it :D
-
Soooo, had a hung-over rummage round the loft of plenty - got down some gen 1 Ditchforks:
[attachment=1]
[attachment=2]
Also grabbed some stems - think I know which one I'm gonna go with but any suggestions would be ace:
[attachment=3]
Also, big up happy Chrimbo to all the Mid School bread-bins out there :4_17_5:
-
I'd use the TNT on that :daumenhoch:
-
I'd use the TNT on that :daumenhoch:
So would I... and if you don't... send it me. :whistle:
-
Nick - would pop you that stem in a heartbeat normally - I was gonna use it on this but have remembered that I need the bugger for a 'tribute' build :(
-
Given you have chosen to do the unspeakable and run SBC bars on an S&M ( :LolLolLolLol: ) I would definitely go with the TNT stem on the bike. If you run a redneck the the opposing brands will sense each others presence, and reject one another, causing the bars to constantly slip so long as they are paired together.

What about a Redneck on an Hyper grasping a set of Slams Jon... is it a no no ?

:LolLolLolLol:
Wondered who'd point that out :daumenhoch: Didn't want it looking like every other build, and brand loyalty wasn't really my bag then or now. Although I was a bit partial to DK's :).
Nick you'll be fooked with that combo - it'll chuck you over the bars everytime it gets the chance.

No problem there. Slam bars were the benchmark, so it's legal to run them on anything (except a Standard, that is a big No). :daumenhoch:
The laws of mid school only come into play when you interbreed brands that had a non commercial conflict with each other (all brands were commercial competitors by default). So for example, chapter 3, paragraph 6 of the mid school bible states that no S&M can ever have SBC parts on it, and visa versa. The same rule would apply to Haro / GT for example.
Addendum 1.2 states that benchmark products (Dx pedals, longnecks, gt profiles, slam bars, etc) can be used freely across any build except where brands conflict under chapter 3. So for example, slam bars in a hyper is no problem, but GT profiles on an Airmaster is sacrilege.
Hope that makes sense. :LolLolLolLol:

I thought Chapter 3, Addendum 1.2 stated; 'It is illegal to make love in zero-g whilst wearing a ginger toupee'?

I was trying to keep your thread safe for work. :LolLolLolLol:

Looking good Dan those forks are lovely,use a redneck for sure.hope you had a good Crimbo dude :-)
-
Platform db mk show eh lol
-
Are your lugs also to low for a 990 dan?
-
Werd up Olly - mine *seem* ok - I've slapped a 990 on and offered up a wheel + tyre and they're in the right place.
Thing is though, until I finish building and ride the bugger I won't know as S&M were notorious for bad lug placement. Could turn out (as I've had before) that the brakes'll squeal like fookers 'cos one brake arms further back than the other ;D
-
Bane of my life that S&M-lug-placement. Some shabby work at times. George used to cut them off and put them back on reyt for us. Dirtbikes, HAFs, they were consistently wank.
-
Never mind lug placement, they can't even drill a hole in the right place. On my challenger the wishbone brake hole means you have to run the blocks slammed with the wheel in the middle of the dropout? If you mount the brake on the chain stays, even with the wheel slammed the blocks can't reach the rim... :idiot2:
-
It ain't only S&M - first DK General Lee I got from Hot Wheels in '97, built it up and the last thing I tried to put on was the rear 990. Turns out that there wasn't any threaded holes (or holes in general - bah-doof!) in the lugs, just solid metal :LolLolLolLol:
B&E - good at making frames but well shit at lugs.
-
My are perfect alignment but there too low so the block adjuster nut it's the frame hense why I need a shimano style u-brake coz they have diff mounts for the blocks lol

Which makes me wonder, was some of the early stuff gigged up for a 994 style brake, there's a 94 Holmes on fb at the min with the same height lugs as mine...

If you going to chop the nose off a GT seat, you may as well do it properly, and deface one of the rarer colours. :LolLolLolLol: :daumenhoch:
I would normally cry, but Im about to do the same thing. :LolLolLolLol:
-
:LolLolLolLol:
You wait to see what happens when Mr Punchy meets Japanese Tech 77 locking levers Jon.

Modified tech77. Very dandy. :daumenhoch:
Ta Ben - could you ever get non-locking Tech 77s oop Sheffield way back then? Couldn't get em in East Yorks so had to twat the locking levers out every time.
-
Right - found my digi cam now (thought the missus had taken it away with her to take baby pics), so here comes a stupid amount of digi pics.
Parts breakdown:
Frame: 1992/3 S&M Platform Dirt Bike
Fork: Gen 1 S&M Ditch Forks
Bars: Standard 2 Piece Strip Bars
Grips: Jives
Stem: S&M Redneck
Headset: Tioga Beartrap II with Rekka bottom cup (Tougher than a brick shithouse)
Front Wheel: Suzue sealed hub with SBC axle to Ukai Equalizer rim
Rear Wheel: MkI G-Sport Fat Shaft hub to Ukai Equalizer rim
Brake: Front - ACS BOA, Rear - Shimano U-Brake
Levers: Dia Compe Tech 77 locking with the pins twatted out
Tyres: Front - Pr1mo V-Monster, Rear - Generix (Custom Riders special from back then)
Clamp: 2 X TNT
Seat post: Gaybo Elf Zip Post
Seat: GT Freestyle
Crank: Unstamped Profiles
Sprocket: GT Wings Disc, Tuff Neck Cahin Ring, Oddy/Havoc Sprocket Pocket
Pedals: Shimano DX's
Gyro: White Oddy gen 1
Pegs: Yardstix
Gyro Cover: XPosure
Stickers: Useless and Play
The Elf Zip Post saved the seat from being cut down. Also learnt that the lugs on these Platty DB's are deffo not DC 990 friendly - DC990's will fit if you cut down excess thread underneath, but the reach on them ain't enough. Shimano U-Brake = fine, but you can't slam the rear end. Might have a furtle and come up with a solution before MK this year.
Not 100% I like this bike as chromes not really my cuppa and I still don't like front brakes.

Ben I have a 90's non locking Tech 77. God knows how you date tech 77's, but I bought it new in the mid 90's and have owned it ever since. Will snap a pic if you like.

Cheers lads, feedback means a lot :daumenhoch:
Might update with a new seatpost and dead seat.........

Proper mid school, just needs left outside for six months an old t-shirt duck taped round the seat and all the chrome hanging off the back wheel. Oh nearly forgot 6 inches cut off each side of the bars. :LolLolLolLol:
-
Awesome
-
That's pretty cool :daumenhoch:
What's all this talk of 77's only being lockers in the 90's? I had a few pairs without, still got a one or two knocking about I think!
