Title: X3 custom builds (new uk member)
Post by: Oldskoollews on December 15, 2014, 10:55 AM: Hi all, new member here in the U.K, been into bmxing since I could ride a bike, always had bmx's and currently building them to my taste/design, starting off with an old chrome redline frame I've had for 15yrs+

Started like this

I removed the single top tube, sleeved and extended the rear tubes to make a twin top tube frame

I painted it black to start with, but soon changed my mind as didn't like how it looked

I stripped it and did a looptail conversion on it

I then bought a Gary Fisher frame from eBay for Â£21, as it had the right style of frame for a twin top tube conversion, so did a similar job on it as the redline

It had a few decent bits on it so thought it was a good buy! Started off like the redline with the twin top tube conversion and reprofiled the rear drop outs

I used a single speed crank and BB from eBay which cost me Â£20 in total

Post by: Oldskoollews on December 16, 2014, 09:33 AM: I do like twin top tubes, but it's more the fabricating/customising that I like, I have other more standard bmx's like a kalkhoff, BH California, Barbican and tensor, which will all remain with stock frames, but seeing as the frames I've modified cost very little to buy in the 1st place (or I'd already had them) I thought I'd do something different with them other than another standard rebuild :)

I wouldn't chop anything of value, most I've spent on a frame to chop is £21, so no biggy if it doesn't turn out right! Lol they've already had a few people scratching their heads as to what they are/were :)

Cheers for the positive comments guys, got a few more builds planned, including a VDC style frame and a TRM style frame :)

Lol I was trying to replicate the TIG welds but with a mig, so pulse welded that bit, the rest of the welds are all seam welded and smoothed to give the look of continuous solid tubing, and all the joins are sleeved internally and plug welded each side of the join like in the 1st few pics.

If you have a problem with what I'm doing, or how I choose to weld my frames, then please don't bother to post on my thread. I've rode all my bikes fairly hard that I've welded and all are fine and very solid.

I was an NDT inspector ultrasound, radiography, LPI and MPI and I learned really quickly slagging of a welders welds doesn't go down well , look great to me buddy always enjoyed watching your creations on FB keep em coming long as they low end bikes you chopping

Keep doing what youre doing mate, we all got nothin but love for ya! Im sure that customer will be very happy with your build, make sure to post up pics for us all to see.
