Title: Mongoose 81/82 frames
Post by: OldGooseGuy on January 16, 2015, 01:51 PM
I've only been back here for a couple of days, and I think I've got the bug again!

You guys have built some sweet rides in the 7 or so years since I was last here.

I think I might have to start a new build project.

I fancy building another Mongoose, the one my mate used to ride back in the day.
If I remember, it was called a Mongoose California Special and was bought in the UK circa 1981/1982.

Does anyone have and idea what the chances are of being able to find this frame and forks?

This is a picture of the California Special bikes.  Pretty easy to replicate framesets are not rare, so come up for sale all the time.

Yup, that's the one, with black accessories.

I'll get hunting!

In the meantime, if anyone has a F&F/bike knocking about that they want to part with, hit me up with a PM  :)

So should I be looking anywhere other than eBay?

Just as a guide for price I sold a California Special Frame and Fork with lovely survivor chrome, forks weren't so great though for £200 collected, which I was happy with, they do come up fairly regularly on UK ebay and very regularly on US ebay.

Good info, I was hoping I could get something for around £200, so that's good to know.
Unless I can find something in really good condition, I think it will be getting a re chrome, so condition apart from dents or dings is not so important.
