Back after a long BMX hiatus....hi!
Got this NOS PK Ripper frame and forks about a year ago. It has some personal history as it was one of the last sets from Charlie Allen/Shiner who I was mates with back in 78/79. I lived literally door to Shiner Autos in Westbury-on-Trym in Bristol and went to school with him too.
Anyway - really want to build this up (lightly of course and not ride it ) as I've got some lovely parts for it that I've bought over the last year - Ukais, Tuf neck stem, MX100, troxel, 401's all in great condition. Ive been told I should just keep it as is and display it as frame and forks. Don't want to do it as I've dreamt of a PK since I was at school.
Should I look for a used set and keep this or build it up?

If u build it up it may devalue it . But it's urs so do as u please . I have built NOS frames before now with no regrets :daumenhoch:
-
Do whatever makes you happy.
-
it's yours mate so entirely up to you
I can tell you that they ride very nicely though :)
-
Yeh build the fecker up
-
If you're building it, riding is mandatory.
-
Build it mate and get full enjoyment from it is my advice, no point keep looking at it 👍
-
Build it and ride it... build it and look at it. ???
The choice is yours. :daumenhoch:
-
That is nice :)
-
You could sell it as nos and buy good condition frame and forks to build and ride, make a few quid that'll help fund the build
That is exactly the same colour way as my mate Jay had back in `82/3, he had aero zytecs, win bars, uni turbo and mx1000's.
Nice to see a NOS one, not many around.
Your decision.

I built my NOS Ripper with no regrets ... go for it :daumenhoch:
-
Build it, no better feeling than pressing the cups into a virgin....
-
Sell it to me, you won't have to make the decision then and it'll save this fiver burning a hole in my flares
-
its your choice but one thing i will say is, if you build it PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE use the CORRECT washers in the rear dropouts :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

That's my choice - build it and look at it. That's what I do and it the consideration I face with every NOS part.
but it also easier for me...I can't put 14 1/2 stone onto these bikes and be sure I'm not going to break it straight away!!
-
Its nice to have an untouched frame, but you have some nice parts, build it and enjoy the full bike :)...Way better in my opinion :)...I think keeping it free from build marks is only relevant if you are looking to sell it and make some profit, or you have more than one frameset :)
-
Don't build it... there can't be many NOS sets around anymore.
Buy another used one in excellent condition to ride :daumenhoch:
-
i concur - sounds dumb :buck2:, but pretty cool to have a Ripper set just standing around, just being NOS. :smitten:
-
i wouldn't build this if it was mine , i'd put it on display and get another to build up and ride :)
BUT its not mine (sadly ) so do with it what you will :daumenhoch:
-
::) what he said

Agreed, would be lovely on display.
