Title: Kappy's Halfpipe on eBay.
Post by: Retrodan72 on February 13, 2015, 01:06 PM
Has anyone seen it?

I remember him telling me exactly how much he'd spent on building it. It certainly doesn't look much now.

I've seen it too in the flesh not long after it was built and it looked awesome.

Just a pity the Yorkshire weathers fooked it up!!

Last time I spoke to Daz was about 12 months ago and he was really into his off-road car racing again :coolsmiley:

Pretty sure he kept quite a few bikes but they will be gathering dust and probably find their way onto ebay eventually if he gets bored of looking at them :-\

As for that half-pipe, it was mad as it had no transitions and was vert at 6' so totally un-rideable  :crazy2:

I remember saying at the time I was puzzled as to why he didn't ask for some advice before going ahead with that.

Yorkshire's weather has nowt to do with it; It's just a cheap badly built ramp.

Hopefully he didn't pay too much in the first place but I doubt that's the case.

Must have missed that one.... Do tell, please. Photos would be good. Of course, please feel free to change the names of those involved to protect the guilt/innocent. Action zone bars are not something i'm into, buy a few radsters love them. Would be good to  some photos of the copies to give less clued up members a heads up....

That much is clear.

What he actually did was throw £1800 quid away. Although from what I understand he can afford it, so no harm no foul.

My point about asking for advice at the beginning was simply so he could have got the shape and proportion correct and by doing that he would have had a lot more fun on it for the time he wanted to ride it.

Check them against each other, I'd be interested to know.

He did seem to have quite a few pairs, when was the last set you saw come up for sale  ???

You can see a clear difference in the blue to white bars straight away  ???

Last set I saw come up was by Dave Rampchild those are the other set I have that I'll compare against.

White ones from Kappy, blue from Rampchild:

Are the white ones without capped ends, and the blue ones capped?  ???

Could just be colour and angle that make them look different?  He might well have bought a few sets, as he did seem to buy an awful lot of stuff for high prices.

I think they're pucker tbf, why go to all that trouble to replicate quite a detailed set of bars to make a quick buck, when he could have done the same using a less complex design, DP ladder bars, for example.  :daumenhoch:

I can see a slight difference but could be the angle of the pic... guess the only way to tell for sure as re: dimensions is to size em up with each other. ???
Either way they're pretty fookin close.   :daumenhoch:

He did make a few , theres a thread on it some where.
Nice enough kid, if a bit ott on wanting  everything bmx you own for nothing.
Couldnt ride for shit though , sore him nearly kill himself a few times at t1 and boardroom, that's why he just stood around talking and doing that balancing trick.

Shame Dave Curry didn't stay on here - you could have your answer from the company owner himself.

I would consider Dave a friend. Life seemed to have been hard on him and I'm a little ashamed to say I allowed contact to be lost.

I hope he's safe and well.

I like it where he says 'nothing has changed'.

Well, there's nobody turning up on the rides or phoning me up anymore bragging about how much they've spent on bikes/parts, and there nobody trying to prize parts off people and telling them that 'everything is for sale'. And there's no back door auction type sales via pm's anymore, so I guess, quite a lot has changed.  :daumenhoch:
