Post by: BMX1973 on March 10, 2015, 08:38 PM

Thanks in advance.  :daumenhoch:

Should have a 5 digit serial and a 4 stamped inside the rear drop out.  :daumenhoch:

As above. Stamping should only be on dropout.

The chap has said serial stamped on bottom bracket not on dropout!  :-\ Is that possible?

Be 99.9 % sure it's not an 83 GT Pro with serial no stamped on BB, serial no's on BB started with overseas production in 84.

May have mixed up JR and PR  :-\

Should they have JR or PR stamped on the frames then?  :-\

So depending on year 83/84 it could be right being serial stamped on B/B. Saying that he said it was US made!

Anyone got a link to a catalogue download. Can't find one on the museum.  :(

Get him to tell you exactly where the serial number is. If it's on the reardrop it is US made and should not have anything stamped on the BB. Could it be a postcode type thing? JR is stamped on the reardrop of US made juniors, not sure jnrs were made overseas.

Just waiting on photos now.

From what I understand it says 4 on dropout.
Serial number on B/B with PR stamped by it.

What should the TT measure?

Sorted number was on dropout - not B/B.

Whats the right price to pay for just the F & F?

Thanks for the replies chaps.  :)

Pay more for a good chrome one.  :daumenhoch:

Don't buy a recoated one unless you really know the seller, I would apply this logic to any frame but GTs especially.  :daumenhoch:

They are prone to the seat tube rusting from the inside out because there is no hole in the bottom bracket to allow water to drain or the seat tube to breath.

As one of if not the best race frame they often took a shocking beating and the drops are often splayed and badly repaired under new paint or powder.

Excellent quality, great riding frame and could take a hell of a beating but at the end of the day most of these old frames have achilles heels which age exploits, not having a hole at the bottom of the seat tube was a design flaw IMO.

If I was in the market for any frame I wouldn't buy one that has been refinished unless the project was documented with pics, with og chrome it's easier to see if a frame has had a hard life.

Popular with iffy quality is Hutch territory.

They were also prone to cracking around the top of the seat post tube , where the rear end fixes.
