Hi guys! Can anyone shed any light on the timeline for 80s' GT posts as I'm getting confused with the different decals and stamping!! :crazy2:
Thanks in advance.
Mick :)

pre 84 unstamped like the bars
84-89 stamped GT (side by side logo) 4130 and baseball symbol
89-oblivion stamped GT (vertical logo) cr-mo

Brilliant info - just what I needed, thanks! :daumenhoch:
-
Is this the same for bars? Do they all have knurling? :daumenhoch:
Sorry Mikku don't mean to thread hijack! :-[ :)

No basically. Early bars had neither a stamp nor knurling. The shape, size and cross bar width determines an early set of GT Pro bars.
they eventually got stamped and knurled. then the cross bar became oval and blimey it was the 90s. :LolLolLolLol:
Shape and size is the big give away for GT Pro bars :daumenhoch:

No worries! It's great to share all this info. :daumenhoch:
I've always wondered when the knurling was introduced on the GT bars (and Powerlite bars, for that matter)!

I have 3 lay backs and they all have different stamps, different lengths and different angles...

(I know the one on the left is from the 90's , but I like the stamp)...

Never seen the GT stamp on the left before Eddie :coolsmiley:
The two posts on the right are probably both foreign, if they don't have the baseball stamp they'd be made in Taiwan I'd guess, different factories would explain the shapes.
-
The angle of the middle one is not typical of a GT post, probably a copy.
-
It's not quite fully laid back , more semi...

But it's very thick walled...
Would make a good rider...

Probably last longer than the original ones :LolLolLolLol:

Where would the baseball symbol be, at the base? :-\
I know it can be confusing with the seat posts as there were a lot of fakes around a few years back! >:(

Must be confusing with the unknurled and unstamped bars. :-[ Bit like SE bars. :-\
Best get stamped ones then. :daumenhoch:

My 1985 post is like this:
GT
CA
CR-MO 4130
Then at the lower part of the post at the insert line you'll see the baseball symbol
------------
INSERT
THIS LINE
JAPAN @
"@" is a baseball symbol.

Thanks for the info and photos on this one guys!
So taking all the above in account, would it be accurate to amend rodriguez's three-way breakdown as follows:-
pre-84 unstamped = made in California
84-89 stamped GT (side by side logo) 4130 and baseball symbol = made in Japan
post-89 oblivion stamped GT (vertical logo) cr-mo = made in Taiwan

Does nt a baseball mean made by koizumi like the decent diamondback frames ?

It does, they made stuff for a few different brands, including Raleigh too :daumenhoch:
-
& the "baseball" is the Koizumi logo which derives from one of the kanji (Chinese) characters in the company's name. Ian at Natsukashi has a good piece on this in his website blog. :daumenhoch:
