Title: S&M Fastpitch forks with lugs, cable routing issue
Post by: paulb113 on March 19, 2015, 08:41 PM
I just bought a pair or S&M Fastpitch forks and the top cap isn't big enough to route a cable through so I asked the guy I got them off and got this reply

YEP I did run a front brake YA have to split the cable have top half with a ferrule going in to the top then turn YA bike upside down remove front wheel and run the bottom cable from underneath hope this helps or YA could simply and carefully drill the hole out but be very careful CUZ them top caps am £10 !! Not sure which other top caps fit ??

Anyone else run a front brake on a new school bike this way?

S&M do use a smaller compression bolt than most, I've got some pitchfork xlt's with 990 mounts & if you're careful you can drill through the top cap enough to run a cable through, the way the fella said will work as well but sometimes it doesn't feel as smooth.  Make sure you don't ruin the broached hex recess though!

If you get stuck, I've got some Oddy flat land forks. Pics here

Got a bolt off an old Haro that fitted so it's all routed through and working, not best looking solution may try to drill the one that the forks came with

Get the drill out and if you do damage the allen key section follow Jim's advice

Drilled out and ready to fit,no damage to allen key head. Should look a lot neater

Told you going through the top cap works, looks real good! Great tailwhipping action going on there!  :daumenhoch:
