Brought an old pair of Skyway Mag's, not Tuff's which were faded blue. Tried to dye them black with no success, can anyone help. First time attempt. Big plastic tub, hot water, added salt, mixed, added Rit dye powder two of, put in wheels and left for a hour with the odd stir. Took em out and colour hasn't taken too well. Wanted a deep black colour and they've came out darkish blue and a bit patchy. Any ideas or have I just got to repeat the process ?

Did you clean them meticulously first?
-
Yep, scrubbed them with a scouring pad in hot soapy water.

Ive heard that after half hour the dye stops working. And when the water starts to cool down.

Read on a old post something about to keep the water hot use a wall paper stripper and take the end off leaving just the tube. What do ya just stick the tube into the dyeing tub ? not sure....... :-\
-
yep, get a steam wall paper stripper (just a huge kettle with a pipe) get it boiling with the steam coming out the tube and then stick the end in the bucket, keeps the water nice and hot for hours. Just make sure you keep the steamer topped up :daumenhoch:

Cheers for the tips people, ave got an old wallpaper stripper so will try that. Keeping the water hot for longer must help and using a plastic tub was wondering how to do this :-\. Great idea. And Gonna soak them in hot water first to 'open the pours' before dyeing. Take two. If anyone's interested I will let you know how I get on. Thanks again.

stick them in the dishwasher first, they come out nice and hot

The wife is the dishwasher so can't do that !

I wish my old stripper was as good as the ones I saw up Shoreditch last weekend "wantit"
