Title: Why is midschool stuff so hard to find?
Post by: Demongt on June 01, 2015, 12:00 AM
Iv collected and restored my share of 80's GT's but for whatever reason the mid school stuff actually seems HARDER to find and restore?

Was there just that much more stuff sold in the 80's?

There was less made, and most of it broke!

BMX in the early 90s was unpopular, it was all about 18 speed MTBs so you generally got sniggered at for riding a 20".  It wasn't easy to get stuff even then as most shops didn't bother stocking it.  'Twas a mystical era 8)

What is it your after in particular?your in the right place just keep checking on the sale threads you'll be surprised what pops up.i think it's all about patience.we would all love to build our dream bikes in an instance but it never happens.its frustrating but well worth the wait when you finally track down your parts which I'm sure you found with your 80s builds.i find wheels the hardest part as everyone thrashed them or left them in the garden to rot.stick some wanted posts up and see what happens. :)

haha yeah thats true about the wheels for sure. i had about 4 or 5 super 7x rims in my moms garden that were salvageable when i took them off but 15 or so years of weather has rendered them completely useless now. real shame.

midschool stuff, or at least the really special stuff is pretty rare because its amazing and everyone wants it...
(as others have already said though the type of riding stresses and lower production numbers make it a very different beast to oldschool stuff)

been looking for a survivor 93 and 94 GT PFT.

also the 48H gt freestyle chrome hubs seem impossible to find along with small bolt boa front brakes.

It's out there... just takes a little longer to come round. Think the rarity reflects in the price of certain items too due to lesser numbers being manufactured.  :-\

Who said mid school was cheap.  ???

Thanks for the heads up, i need a team frame though. the team frame had the brake mounts.

i wish that was a team frame, would save me time. although if he parts out i could REALLY use some of those parts.
