Title: Can't believe some of that shit on FB
Post by: Pooch on June 12, 2015, 07:12 AM
I've seen and been invited to many pages on FB.. I have a look a then jogged on.. But some of the shit and drivel that's said is beyond me..
I think most haven't even had a Bmx back in the day!!? Well from their  interpretation I don't think they have😳
It could put me off the whole thing, but I'm trying not to let that happen!! As long as those kinda sad fooks stay away from me! I'm happy😁
Even saying it saved my life being a part of this Bmx crew, what a load of wank... Embarrassing is more the word..

Why would you put a fried egg on a seat , to be fair that is pretty weird in itself.

For me, Life seems to go to fast enough without wasting time on FB.
Proud to say never logged on it, but I guess it has its place for some.
Much prefer forums for the harder core.

Faceache in general is a waste of space! more suited for people without real lives to lead.... posting endless cr@p! Seems that everyone who's banned from this superb forum or any other bmx forum is on Faceache cos that's the only place they can haunt....then there's the 2 or 3 biggest 'splitters' of old school bmx (we all know who they are lol) peddling there over priced parts to their captive faceache community!!  :bellend:

Don't know what you're on about John, there's proper quality 'custom' builds on there  ;D

it's the clown bikes that make me think they never had a bike...
I think this is how it works for many..
One day for some mad reason you think of building a Bmx that reminds of your youth or you've never been away from it.
So how the fook do they come up with these concoctions?
I actually don't think it's that cool, more just fond memories and like minded people. And they just think it's cool to ride the streets shouting Oi Oi to any passer by 😳

So how the fook do they come up with these concoctions?

Two reasons John.

Firstly, they are the people who you used to see back then that just rolled around the streets and had a, well, some sort of BMX. The best they could do was to jump off a kerb, nearly killing themselves in the process. You can tell who they are by just looking at the bars sitting on their front tyres   :idiot2:

Secondly, they now want to build a BMX but, when they start looking at the prices of parts, they turn to the repop junk on Ebay etc. The style of the bikes coincides with their style of BMX'ing back then........SH!TE!  ;D

Me too! if fb is so shite....then foooking stay away from it, stop trading parts on there, come back and use the forum.....but not to tell us how shite fb is  ::)
and by the way.....did you know the facebook app for your smartyphones is able to 1.change the content of your text messages 2. turn your camera and mic on at any time to record 3. change the content of your contacts list and you silly fookers have agreed to it!  "nono" "nono" "nono"

The whole demonisation of the "splitters" you are refering to originated from disputes on the Burner forums and is totally irrelevant now (was then too), the "splitters" are banned and their detractors are nowhere to be seen.

A lot of the parts in the For Sale section are sold by a fellas in Europe and the US who split bikes, nothing wrong with that IMHO, parts have to come from somewhere, should they be banned?

Probably the biggest "splitter" in the UK scene is a member of this forum, nothing wrong with that either IMHO.

Quite a few parts are sniped on here and ebayed, not so sure about this.

I prefer the forum format to facebook for many of the reasons already stated (although not all), BOTM, the reference section and build threads by the likes of Ed209 GnarlyScoots, Retrodan and Gary72 (sorry if I've left anyone out) are always worth a look.

Hopefully RAD will ride out the current lull but a forum is only as good as members make it.

I actually quite enjoy FaceBook  :)

I can keep up with my family who live all over the world , and I have a business page that we get work off ..

As for the 10000000000 of BMX pages ( too many ) I'm only a member of 3 ..

There is always the option to block people (  :bellend:'s ) or turn off notifications

Updated.. I've always stood by Radbmx.. It's my mothership of Bmx..

Got to Be honest I think Facebook has its place.

It's changed loads in the last few years from just personal individuals pages to groups & reference pages .

Yes there's lots of bullshit on there & I can't be arsed with most of the banter. End of the day i just like building bikes, researching a little Bmx history & reminiscing.

But to be fair as a side effect of my hobby I've inadvertently ending up trading in parts here & there (haven't we all as nobody keeps every part that comes on a complete they have bought).

But also through this interest I've done hours of research looking through all of my old magazines scanning images articles adverts etc & searching online for information & photos in an attempt to just basically try to piece together a little history on brands that i liked back in the day & from there I've set up brand pages on Facebook for Rebel & Marlboro plus a group dedicated to the Rickman Brand, all as a point of reference for anyone that's interested & wants to reminisce a little ....

Many of the page visitors come simply sell brand related parts (which is fine) but most have contributed also & maybe don't want to be members of forums or possibly don't even know that Rad exists... Also I've shared many images & info to pages set up by other (Rad) members on Facebook inc Dp TRM & Vincent as they are just exceptionally good (goto reference pages).

To be fair there's not a section on RAD that's dedicated to each specific brand allowing members to add as much info as possible in one place such as brand history catalogues / parts / clothing / etc (apart from the museum) which is just simply builds, so Facebook is perfect for this as to find all of this info on rad you need to really know your way around & that's not for everyone.

Maybe brand sections are something to consider setting up on RAD & maybe traffic will pick up a little ?

How I see it is if you don't like it skip past.
There's more than enough other content for anybody to look at on Facebook if one build or page don't take your fancy.
I have always though and still do that rad is missing out big time by not pushing there page more.
Anybody that with an interest in bmx in General would end up joining the forum from off of the page if they were not already a member.
I know I've past at least a dozen or more people onto rad that had never herd of it.
Move with the times gents or risk missing out on new people to keep the old ship radbmx sailing.

Yeah mate , a few RADsters had already commented it had already been done and put a link to your thread on here .

It was only yesterday so should be easy to find .  It was getting a bit heated so i just put ........ ''Could i have the centres he had cut out as i wanted to glue them to a set of Pro Class rims i have here''  :D

What i have noticed about FB is the amount of well known RAD members who only post there for sale stuff on the various FB pages ::)  .  Im sure if they posted there stuff on here it would generate more traffic on this site , won't happen over night but it would help .  I appreciate the ease of posting stuff on there but at the end of the day this site needs their input and surely spending a few more minutes posting stuff on the main forum isn't too much to ask when you consider the history and info you get from this site ......... and for the majority this is were it all began for them . Some people have very short memories  :(

I think the Facebook/forum debate will always rumble on mate but I agree if people are exclusively advertising on Facebook it does nothing for the forum. I'm sure we have all noticed its quiet recently and with the good weather here it shouldn't be. It's a fine balance of reasons but for sure it's not helped if people only advertise on Facebook  :-\

While I can be arsed to help police it, no-one selling on the Rad FB page can do it exclusively - they still need to post a link back to here Clint ;)

Always good to see people posting on FB about some of the content that's been submitted on the forum, we should do more of this ;) the museum section on here has a few years' worth of brand-specific bikes that would no doubt be of interest to some of the guys yet to discover  :radbmxsmilie:

If you want instant recognition for a bike you've just built (needy folk only need apply), need a quick answer to a question (from folk who haven't got a clue) or need to open your sales up to a wider audience (tried it didn't make a difference) then fb is great.  :LolLolLolLol:

Tbh i find it's more suited to specific brands (as has been said) and to the ride side of bmx... but all the rides i attend are Rad based anyway so i get my fix here... other than that it's fookin shite   :daumenhoch:

What really pisses me off about FB, is the amount of friend requests I get, off people I've never met. I have accepted friend requests off people I've only met once or never met, but chatted to on the forum, but the other's can fook right off.

In my own opinion, Facebook has it's place in the grand scheme of things.

There are members on here now that wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Facebook and themselves being pointed in this direction. You open yourself up to a far wider audience, albeit to some rather colourful characters too, which can be a huge benefit. I have sourced parts through Facebook that I just couldn't pick up within this forum. I have also found some very intellectual characters too, with huge amounts knowledge, that have 'friended' myself, and had some great conversations with them, eye openers too.

Facebook has the ability for instant engagements, even though it does attract some idiots along the way, but they soon get dealt with on the pages I use. If you need a question answered quickly, this can help, or be a hindrance, as there is a lot of opinions out there.

I have found the Rad forum very very slow over the past few months and I hope it is just because people are using the good weather to get out and about on their bikes, rather than just have them sitting there collecting dust. I also feel it does need some new, fresh ideas coming along too, to help get the forum buzzing again.

Either way though, it is here, whether you like it or not. You can choose to use it, or stay away. I prefer to use both and will continue to contribute to the forum as much as possible as this is the place where I feel most at home in  :daumenhoch:

I have always though and still do that rad is missing out big time by not pushing there page more.
Anybody that with an interest in bmx in General would end up joining the forum from off of the page if they were not already a member.
I know I've past at least a dozen or more people onto rad that had never herd of it.
Move with the times gents or risk missing out on new people to keep the old ship radbmx sailing.

and by other things dords, you mean chicks with nowt or next to nowt on. You're like a dog with two todgers ;)
yer.. I've seen chicks pop up with hardly anything on and it says 1 friend knows her.. And it's Dordy!! Happened a few times.. Even a bird with butt implants.. Sure of it..😳
