Title: Haro Freestyler 1st Gen
Post by: Redtom on July 01, 2015, 06:53 PM
I've had my Haro Freestyler since i was a kid. Bought it when they first came out, remember ordering it out of BMX action bike mag like it was yesterday. Spent hours and hours on this bike.
It's spent the last 20 odd years in my shed so i figured i should carefully restore it. Just a general clean up, happy to leave the scuff and dull bits. He are all the pics so far.

Like JT said, keep it as it was, survivors are very cool, and not many if the lads on here are lucky enough to own their original bmx from BITD.  :daumenhoch:

Start polishing with peek today. Very happy with how its coming up. Hard work but very satisfying.

What are those grip donuts?  :)

The smell of peek still makes me want to puke  :2gunsfiring_v1:

My tip would be don't over polish it. Make it shiny but don't polish out all the imperfections  :daumenhoch:

Totally agree. I like the aged bits. Just removing the grim really, almost there.

Leather donuts,  30 odd years old but still feel good.

Looks great so far mate, chrome coming up lovely.   :daumenhoch:

I remember the leather donuts, I think Oakley made them BITD. Andy (danceforthrbummersmeat) was trying to source some last year.

And also good to see you wanting to restore the bike rather than immediately asking what it's worth and trying to sell it.
Yes I remember those leather donuts I think they were more for motocross bikes but BMXers would use them as well.
Love a Gen 1 by the way, ultimate BMX you were lucky to have one back then....

Thanks for all your kind words of encouragement. I am lucky to still have my Haro, i'm a bit of a horder, i don't really get rid of my old stuff. Got a stack BMX action bike mags in loft, just came across my Bob Haro moves freestyle book.
I saved like hell to buy this frame back in the day. Am i right in thinking they where around £116 for frame and forks?
