Following the tragic news today of the sad passing of the OM of BMX Scot Breithaupt, we would like to pay our respects and honour him by asking everyone who's coming and owns an SE Bike of any kind be it vintage, Old school, mid school or new school retro to bring them all along on Saturday for a little get together in the main tent.
We will also be remembering Scot before the Lake ride on Saturday evening with a minutes applause/cheering and basically making as much noise as possible
R.I.P Scot

I'll be there for sure :daumenhoch:

Awesome idea
-
It's a cracking idea.
One thing I've learnt about this forum is, that when someone that matters has had some kind of upset in their life, the members all do what they do best (apart from building the best BMX's in the world), and that's show how much they care. :4_17_5:
-
Let me see if I can squeeze the ripper into the car ;)
-
Maybe a Scot Breithaupt memorial trophy/shield for the best SE bike at MK , something that could be engraved and passed on from year to year :-\ The winner could possibly have a smaller trophy to keep with the main trophy/shield being returned, that way Scots name will always be associated with MK year after year .
Im also happy for my bike to be removed from the home page if you feel putting a pic of Scot on there is a fitting tribute :daumenhoch:

^^^Top idea Joff^^^

I agree. That's a great idea Joff
-
Top idea Joff :daumenhoch: and a nice touch regards your bike picture :daumenhoch:
-
Agree with everything. Scot loved a party or 2 and he would have absolutely loved the SE tent.
-
Smashing idea Joff. :daumenhoch:
-
Great idea everyone, ill bring a ripper and Quad got another 3 SE's to finish but i doubt they will be ready for this MK.
-
Can we get Todd Lyons over ... I'd love to meet Todd.
:D

Has any one got a SE bubble chain ring that could be put on a wooden base made in to a trophie
we could have the Scot Breithaupt award on THE SAT FOR BIKES IN THE LINE UP??
WHAT YOU THINK??
-
It's a great idea.. May have to bring my 83 quad frame and forks just to geg in on the action ...
Great idea Joff... Lovely sentiments Dan.., top work :radbmxsmilie: mods/admin :4_17_5:

Hold your horses guys, we haven't made any decisions (or even spoken about) having an award for SE bikes.
A great idea for this year as a mark of respect for Scot to have lots of SE bikes and a SE tent on the Saturday along with a minutes applause etc.
However personally I am hesitant to have a seperator award/category/prize at MK, radbmx is for all BMX, not to single a particular make out for special treatment or recognition.

no worries.

It's a shame as this could have been so good for this year and any future years and something a little new. Scot didn't just love SE he loved all things BMX and devoted all of his life helping to create something huge. My suggestion would have been this years winner chooses next years winner and so on. Shame it gets binned so early.

I'll have my Quad and Ripper with me

Nothing has been binned Ash, however nothing has been discussed either, Joff came up with an idea and everybody has decided it is happening, that isn't the way we run the site, we have an admin team who discuss idea's.
As you say Scot loved all things BMX, so a dedicated award just for SE bikes goes completely against that ethos.
We have to remember that although Scot was a legend in the sport he also at time upset a lot of people and courted a lot of controversy, so careful consideration has to be made to ensure linking this site to Scot permanently (in the guise of a yearly award/trophy etc), is the right thing for us to do.
If we do have a seperate category/prize for SE Racing bikes only, then I would suggest that SE Racing bikes can ONLY enter this category, they are not allowed in any other S&S category. This would then make the best SE bike the BEST SE bike.
However what happens when another BMX legend dies, do we have a Redline only category, A GHP category etc etc? These are the types of things that have to be considered by the admin team.
It opens a massive can of worms that has to be discussed.

whatever happens, we ARE having a mass gathering of SE bikes in the main show tent on Saturday and also a minutes applause/cheering/making as much noise as possible before we embark on the lake ride at roughly 6pm on Saturday evening :daumenhoch:

Exactly as Rob says, we are holding a seperate celebration and gathering for Scot on the Saturday, which for me is great and sufficient.
We as a site will show our respect to Scot who was a godfather to the sport.
Like we did with Pete Kirk who was a godfather of this very site.
-
Besides, there's not much point having a competition just for SE bikes
Might as well just hand the trophy straight to Ash and save a lot of pissing about

You're entitled to your opinions about beer & food @ MK Pete but that's not being very fair
Yes there may have been discussions about getting Scot from across the pond, but the cost of a plane ticket from Cali would have wiped out a massive chunk of the MK budget, much of which goes on unglamorous but necessary items like skips, toilets & marquees
As for the Dog & Duck's drink and the food which you appear to have a problem with, a large chunk of that was very kindly donated by Radsters, would you have had us turn those donations down???
We may not have had him over, but thanks to donations from people in that free bar Scot received a sizeable donation from us all
-
I think John's answered pretty much everything there Pete.
It's a real shame we couldn't do it at the time but you of all people know what goes into putting MK on every year, and the D&D doesn't cost anywhere near return flights to Cali and expenses. That would've come to a combined cost of the marquees, skip and toilets.
As we said, it wasn't that we didn't want to do it.....just we couldn't afford it.

Absolutely fooking ridiculous comment to make Pete you should be ashamed of yourself.
If I was you I would take a step back and re-evaluate what you wrote.
Also Scot may have not been allowed through customs? When it was mentioned earlier this year that Scot could come to MK I looked into the visa side of things and from what I was told, I cannot see how Scot would have got a visa doing things the right way (with a criminal record you MUST apply for a visa to enter the UK even if you are on holiday), so we could have spent thousands of pounds on him coming for him to have been turned away at UK customs.
Would that have been a good way to spend the members money?
Also if Scot would have come to MK with us footing the bill, that would have been 95% of our MK budget gone, so we would have had no D&D, no entertainment, no ramps, no S&S prizes, no raffle. Just a shit load of blokes in a field queuing up to get Scot's autograph.
Wow that would have been a fun weekend.
-
Yep I so ashamed of myself

Any chance of getting this thread back on track?
Too late for what 'could' have happened ... only what 'can' happen.

Did he ever ride Motocross ?.... Oh hell yes did he ever, was only a support rider for team Yamaha. His roots in Motocross drove him to start what he did for BMX. He raced for the likes of Yamaha, Dan Gurney, Matthews and FMF which lead him to start FMF BMX. He was an awesome Motocross rider.
