Okay so don't laugh but I know say Tim March and Andy Patterson both raced with graphite skyways ( as shown ) but did anybody actually race with the heavier normal tuff 2s either here on Rad or anybody that they can remember?
Cheers Ant

I'm sure that they were only using motomags and tuff 1s in 17th century Netherlands Rich ..... :tickedoff: :LolLolLolLol:

Steel hubbed tuff II's were being developed at this time too :LolLolLolLol:

I raced with Tuff 2s for a bit when I rode for Hotshot.

Google images show that Andy Patterson used them. :daumenhoch:

My lasting memory of being at Brum WHEELS as a kid was when one of the guys there let me take his WHEELS out on the track - the only time I ever rode one back then. It had red Skyways on it, and mainly red components also. Considering they mainly ran skinnies it would have been quite a change. I still don't know who the owner was, but I'd still love to recreate that bike that i have had pictured in my head for all these years.
I think if i ever eventually locate a Pro frame i'll go for it and recreate that build... maybe with a set of spokes for 'best' 8)
I think if you look at some period race pics you will see the odd rider with Skyways in there.

I did, for a bit, then changed to a set of 7x, I was shit on both!!!

Thanks for sharing lads ... I searched my massive pile of old school mags but struggled to find pictures of racers using tuffs ...
Was this around 80-2 or did you ride them in 83 or 84 ? Just asking out of curiosity ... Had all riders seen the lightness of the wire wheel by then and switched?

What the hell was it about Hotshot and Tuffs Tony? When I started riding for them, they wanted me to run Skyways, I was racing on 1 3/8" skinnies at the time :LolLolLolLol:

Pat Robinson just posted this, showing a couple of WHEELS riders on Skyways. Never seen this before, but he says it was in '82 (the newer International track being built in '83).

My early races at Buckmore Park and Earls Court were on Tuffs, pretty sure lots of others did too.

Love that Brum Wheels photo.. Top skyway action!

+1 on the photo! I once ran Skyway Tuff 2s on my Trident at Bournemouth in the mid-80s! Got elbowed off at the first jump! Thumbs down
