Title: Price for shipping complete bike from USA - I'm getting $600?!
Post by: downlowmatt on July 23, 2015, 05:13 PM
Ok so I'm modifying this thread, I'm super stoked as thanks to everyone's advice below, my offer was accepted on this survivor '83 Torker 280X.

Now I'm trying to get it here for MK, but the prices I'm getting are a bit nuts.

I gave the sizes I got from a thread on bmxmuseum, which were 49"x29"x8" bike box and 35lbs weight. (Ive since found out it weighs 21lbs)

I called 2 local places in the USA yesterday:
UPS - $888.51 and here by Wednesday if they ship on Monday
$603 - here by Friday

I was expecting to pay between $150 and $300 so am a bit befuzzled!

I'm guessing quite a few of you bring bikes over from the USA and wondered if you can please help with advice and I'll buy you a beer at MK

Matt

The best advice I can give you through experience is the following buddy.

If you have a US buddy, get it shipped to him and then ship it over. Ship the bike in two boxes. Pedals, wheels, seat and post, and bars in one, the rest in the other. The box can be cut to virtually fit around the frame set bringing the overall size to the minimum.

If you are sure the seller is genuine and can be trusted, and can also follow the above to help you, get him to value the total of each box at $40 and tick the 'gift' box on each declaration notice. You WILL avoid any charges that way but you will not be insured if the item/s are lost. The chances of that happening though are very slim indeed, and any delays in you receiving the item/s means it's being held at Parcel Force until you receive the charge notice and pay it. It also means the sender marked the declaration form incorrectly.

I hope that helps a little buddy  :daumenhoch:
