Anyone know what nuts the Megabrake conversion that Rob Ridge did take? or what TPI it is?
Its not the normal 'axle' thread so maybe Skyway type?
Cheers :daumenhoch:
If you have a spare nut that you can send me thats EVEN BETTER :daumenhoch:
-
Ed - I don't think it was a bicycle thread at all but I do stand to be corrected.
Rob Ridge is a facebook buddy - shall I ask him for you?

got a couple of reaction boa's here, one 10mm and the other 8mm. the 10mm uses a m10x1 nut. the original nuts are 3mm thick and there's 3 of them.
-
No idea what one is, megabrake sounds super cool so someone show me what it is :slayer:
-
it's a regular acs boa with the bearings replaced with sealed one's and a thicker axle.

Ahhh !!!
Thought about that when I rebuilt mine the other month, didn't know it'd been done :teef:

Not heard back from Ridger yet.
Taking John4130's info, I believe that pitch of 1mm makes it Metric Fine. A little more unusual but easily sourced from engineers supplies shops.

cheers fellas :-)

;D glad i'm not the only one thinking that

this is my 10mm reaction boa, it's not complete as i lost a bearing and the spring, it uses four sealed bearings so when tightened, it gives almost zero flex but still very smooth. best caliper brake ever.

it does indeed have a 3/8 26 tpi axle as i just tried a wheelnut on it and it fitted.
this is my 8mm one, it still uses 10mm sealed bearings but the axle reduces from 10mm down to 8mm.

Any numbers on the bearings John ??? Boas measure at 18mm & Little bearings are 17 or 20mm
-
there are no numbers on the bearings but i ordered a vernier caliper the other day, so when it turns up i'll get the sizes of them. :daumenhoch:

Bet they're old odd skateboard wheel bearings or something daft. They look a snug fit from your pics & the boa arms don't appear to be modified :chin:
-
Yes pretty sure they had skateboard wheel bearings in them :daumenhoch:
-
Nah... skateboard wheel bearings are LOADS bigger ... will take a pic if I can be fooked ;D
Thanks for the pics tho John :smitten:
-
just measured the bearings used in the brake. o.d is 18.97mm, i.d is 9.99mm and width is 5mm incase anyone wants to have a go at making one. :daumenhoch:
-
Easily found at those dimensions :daumenhoch:

Rob Ridge machined the arms for the bearings, they didn't just drop in.
