Title: Your Week Leading Up To MK.
Post by: Retrodan72 on August 16, 2015, 10:35 AM
I have to admit, in the last 4 years that I've attended MK, I've never seen excitement from the RADsters like it.

Next weekend looks like it will go down as one of the best, for sure, and the post event threads and pics will tell the story. But where does your weekend start?

For me, my shift pattern this week is Mon, Tues days, Thurs, Fri nights, so obviously, the nights have been booked off. I'll get the 2 12 hours days out if the way, then I'll start prepping.

Wednesday will be spent prepping the bike, it's between a choice of 2. This will involve a quick clean, tighten everything up, put air in the tyres, then double check everything on it with a blast round the block.

Thursday will be shopping for essentials, booze, Imodium, Nurofen etc, and The Handbrake will be treated to lunch out. Thursday evening will be spent getting my wash bag ready, sorting clothes out, charging iPod and phone, and loading tools and pump/tubes into the rucksack.

Friday morning will be a mad dash as the adrenalin will be kicking in. I'll whack some cans of dark fruits in the freezer for a few hours, so that they stay chilled for the train journey, then I'll pack the rest of the rucksack, which will undoubtedly include a pack of sarnies made by er in drawers.

The ride to the train station from ours is 10 mins, then it's a connection to Chester, then pick up the MK Express @ 12.35. I'll arrive at MK at 14.00, meet Cheeta at the Stn, then it's a 4 mile ride to the Hotel, bags and bike dumped, then meet you lot at the bar.  :daumenhoch:

Working Monday to Thursday.
Thursday evening strip bikes down and load into car, pack tent, beer, parts to sell. Tools. Sit down about 10pm
Friday
Load junior into car while he's still in a sleep coma, collect Jo, head to MK, realise we've forgotten essentials like clothes toothbrushes and deodorant, think fook it, I'll wash in beer

Great thread Dan. I'm working long days on Tuesday and Wednesday, so those days are written off prep wise. Ant has been kindly looking after my VDC whilst i've been between houses. Picked it up on Thursday and made some slight changes (era correct freewheel and correct pads), so it's sorted now. Cleaning and polishing 4 bikes today, and will make a start on my latest build tomorrow. Might have to finish it on Thursday if needed. Getting everything else together today, tomorrow and Thursday. Taking it easy on Friday morning, then it's off to pick up the van, load my stuff, then pick up Ant and Paul. We'll probably get to the hotel (premier inn at the lake) about 9pm. Up early on Saturday, a trip to the golden arches, and then to meet you lot at the helipad site (R.I.P)

If all goes to plan, a load of us will have ridden over from the Holiday Inn to the Prem, so we'll be there on your arrival.

Looking forward to seeing yours and Ant's display lined out, it was one of the highlights of MK14 for me.

I'm up to Northumbria for the week. Hopefully with a Thursday finish. Track night in Grimsby then spend Friday deciding on what to bring and fettle the winners. Await Mrs S G finishing work then convoy down in the evening. No van this year so it'll be one or two choice picks to bring along.

As with the other admin and mods, I have one less day to get ready for MK, so working until lunch time on Thursday and then it will be a case of getting the bikes down from the loft, making sure the pedals, chains etc are all present and correct, pump tyres up etc etc etc.

Friday morning off to the van rental place early and then leave around mid morning to arrive at the track mid afternoon.

Going to be really busy, but really looking forward to it.

Work like a dog all week as normal, get the kids to bed Friday night then chuck me bike in the car. No need to worry if it works as I ride it every weekend but must remember to bring a couple of spare inner tubes.....

Wake up Saturday morning like a 10 year old on Christmas Day and sneak out the house as early as I dare without the missus doing her nut. MK by about 10 am and the rest I never plan, it just happens :2funny:

Gonna try and remember to phone my brother in Australia at midnight but I'm usually a drooling cabbage by then or up till dawn...... who knows what will happen this year >:D

Sunday I will be mainly hung over and more useless than usual. Probably be sat in Steve Animal's gazebo drinking coffee till I can walk and talk. Can't wait  :buck2:

It is strange Spen that you say you never plan  it just happens, but it happens the same way every MK, you WILL be a drooling cabbage and then Sunday you WILL be hung over in Steve's gazebo drinking coffee until you can walk and talk.

It must be a plan mate as it runs like clockwork every year  :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:

Only bringing a couple of riders so it'll be a week of whatever the NHS throws at me then finish Thursday afternoon, get home and load up the car not forgetting the raffle tickets and lacky bands for the show cards, then maybe a curry and an early start Friday to meet up with marc from club MK and get Twobobrob access to the site early so the ramps can be built.  Cant wait!

Have a few drinks Friday night and be ready to open the gates up nice and early for the campers on Saturday.

Just need to get some envelopes ready for everyone that's ordered patches etc so hopefully not such a headache for Joffy on Saturday, only taking one bike so will be heading over to MK as soon as I can.
Hopefully having a busy week at work will mean I'm not too easily distracted, but hard not to get excited about my favourite weekend of the year, can't wait  :D

"The trunk of the car looked like a mobile police narcotics lab. We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers . . . and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls . . . Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. And I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon."

I've just been asked at work, if I'd be willing to give up my Thursday and Friday holiday this week, and work days, to demonstrate the new bar line to a new customer that could be interested in us making cereal bars for them. It could potentially be a very lucrative move for our company.

Er, that would be no.

Im already off work. I was due to go on holiday last weekend but we have recently got a puppy and a 6 hr trip with mental springer spaniel was not an experience I needed in my life.
My bikes ready, I run a bike shop so my bikes always ready.
The hunt is on for a cheap estate car so thats the main goal this week. Find a 2nd (or 3rd in this case) car big enough for bikes, dogs n family
Saturday morning, say my goodbyes and within an hour, say my hellos to yall and enjoy the weekend I've been looking forward to for ages!

Booked Friday off work, heading down on the train on Friday to MK at 11:30, land in MK at 2pm and meet up with Retrodan72 then ride to  hotel. Few beers on the Friday and try and get a goodnights sleep in hotel for Saturdaya antics.

Just need to get bike ready in the week, needs a good clean after RadLeighs antics and brakes tightening. Camping on Saturday night so need to pack my rucksack and get kit sorted.

Never been  MK so I don't know what to expect but sounds a top weekend from all the stories and pictures I've seen. Been on about 9 Rad rides so far so can't miss the Mecca of Radbmx!

I'm loving the comments in this thread boys.

The idea to start this thread was simply to show how far we go to demonstrate how much we love our hobby, and how much we appreciate  :radbmxsmilie: and the people that make it happen.

It's way beyond shiny bikes on stands now.

Last year, going down in Friday, really helped me put into perspective, just what MK and RAD is all about. I was looking around on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning at 40 odd year old lads, booking holiday's off work, spending money hiring big vans to haul their massive collections, leaving their loved ones at home to dance like meerkats in a big tent with flashing lights in it.

It's bigger than most car forums can only dream about, the comments in this thread prove that.

I doff my cap to you all.  :4_17_5:

Just been and got two empty bike boxes for transit.

Spoke to Mary last night, he's my chauffeur yet again. Collecting me at 8am on Saturday from Southampton where I live. No rush, so should be there for about 10.30ish to 11.00.

We expect a red carpet .

Just one more bike to wipe clean.

It's nearly here. :slayer:

PANIC NOW!!!!!

Junior borrowed the tent a month ago and has only just this evening confessed to loosing all the pegs and there are three slashes out of it.
And no gas for camping stove bottle I had turned out to be empty. and kettle looks to have been used for soaking BMX parts in petrol, don't remember doing it, but now Jaymz cappuccino bar needs serious help
At work tomorrow, so going to have to persuade stace to go to town with a shopping list of MK supplies, may not be on much for the rest of evening, gonna be rubbing shoulders and feet all evening!!

Sunday, I drove 5 hours to London, working here all week doing loft installs trying not to get lost. Dunno why but my company put me up a very classy hotel in a country estate in Windsor, its full of posh folk and I feel so out of place.

I am doing the work 2 of us usually do on my own. Really worn out. Friday I get to work the morning only then drive 5 hours back home. Saturday I am meant to be straight back up and a few hours drive back down to MK, I want to come so badly as it will be my first MK, but part of me wants to sleep for 2 days. Even the missus said although a weekend at home would do you good, the bmx weekend will be mega if you make the effort.

Just texting my lass back home. She's 50/50 on going, she's keen for us both to come but has put it down to me to decide depending on how wrecked I am feeling.

So anyways, we are coming. I've only got one job on the outskirts of London tomorrow so should be done by 10am and on my way home and back for mid afternoon. So I'll have plenty time to rest and get a good nights sleep before coming back down the m1 on Saturday.

Wow what a bloody day..

Finished work at midday, had to take the dog for a walk before getting on with sorting my bikes and gear for MK.

Started bringing the first (1st of 11 bikes) bike down from the loft at 1.20pm (all my bikes are in bits in the loft), had to pump all the tyres up, then had to find the parts that belong to each bike.  Then had to put each bike together, put the chains on, find the pedals, then had stuff to put together for my bike display etc etc.

Then had to find all the stuff for the Dog and Duck (plastic glasses, ice buckets, beer towels etc) which again was somewhere in the loft.

Finally just finished at 8pm, now have a house full of bmx bikes awaiting loading onto the van tomorrow, oh yeah have to pick the van up at 9am, bring it home, load it up and get on the road to MK to help the other guys set the event up.

Cannot fooking wait  :slayer:

I've got tomorrow off to get my shite together.
Not had much time to get things going due to work/lack of staff, luckily I finished the MK15 evening burn bins before I went away.

So the morning will be getting the monkeys out, giving them a freshen up, swapping tyres about and other items (every year I change them from the last but nobody notices ::)  ;D )
Whatever time is left between then and picking the hire van up at 3 will be spent cutting up the pallet mountain I've been saving.

************* Anyone who has spare room in their van/car and scraps of wood in their shed/garage, bring it along **************

Then it's off home to get my kit and head north. See you in the bar !!!

in June 2014 my love for BMX was renewed and i desperately wanted to build a bike for MK14. I bought a 84 Haro Master frame and forks for £200 from the states but alas it never arrived and ended up in that place where mislaid mail seems to end up !!!
So i had a whole year to build something special. When i was a kid all i wanted was Haro or a Skyway and since my time was very much 81-84 i thought i would build a TA.
So after 11 months of sourcing and buying parts from literally the four corners of the globe and one month of restoring and powder coating, here i am at 4.40am still putting the damn thing together with 24 hours to go !!!!!!!!
I must have built this bike 100 times differently in my head and i keep changing my mind. I have 6 different sets of damn tyres and 3 sets of Skyways ....and today after buying three sets of Skyway Graphites and all ending up 1/2 instead of the advertised 9/16 i ended up buying a good condition set of blue Shimano dxs, because i couldnt find any nos for less than £300......5 minutes after buying the good conditions ones for more than i think they are worth, i get a facebook PM ...."i hear you are looking for a NOS set of Dx's ...i got some . £200"  damn !! £350 on another 2 sets of pedals.
Anyway ...
Your week leading up to MK15 ...this is mine ha ha ...and im not even close lol
[attachment=1][attachment=2][attachment=3]

it will be done...and on show with the Skyway Appreciation Society .
Looking forward to meeting many of you.

Just back in Leeds, had my one job done in London done for 9.30 and headed straight back. M25/M1 was pleasant for a change, nice easy drive back.

Now I'm back I need to look at getting the zippo fixed for tomorrow. Every time I pedal the rear wheel jumps and moves to one side no matter how tight I have the rear nuts so I've got some chain adjusters that have came in the post while I've been away. Need hope they will go on as I have 14-10mm axle adapters in place which is going to make it tricky.

Other than that I need to sort out all things I'm bringing and get a few things from the shops. Then it's a case of loading the van in the morning and making our way down.

Just been to my local bike shop before they closed, and bought an axle. Got home and it's about 0.5 to 1mm too big in diameter, it doesn't fit though the wheel.

Starting to get really hacked off now, its not looking like I'm going to have my bike to use for the lake ride. I'll have to use my ramp bike on the ride  >:D
