Title: Rare/exotic/obscure US frames test!
Post by: Mikku on September 03, 2015, 02:31 PM
I've been flicking through some of my old BMX porn this morning and in amongst all the old copies of Action Bike and BMX Bi-Weekly were a couple of US mags and even an Aussie one! I'm not so interested in the latter but the US ones are great, especially the adverts for some weird and wonderful framesets, some of which I knew but others which I'd never heard or seen before. So test your knowledge - how many of these do you recognize?

I knew 2 of them, so that's a 50% score for me! :daumenhoch:

I've seen a couple of Slingshot test in magazines I've got. I remember them from bitd but never saw a real one in the flesh. The other two passed me by.

Tbh, I don't remember any of them bitd, it's only since I've got back into BMX that I discovered the obscure brands such as Slingshot and Maximum, and both of those were over on the Museum. It's good to see some of the different stuff that was about then though, as all I ever knew (and probably cared) about back then were the main brands/players.

I do like a bit of Rare, exotic, obscure, mainly because they are different, generally hand made, and made in small numbers.

This is one of my favourites at the moment, but it has been a nightmare to put together  :crazy2:

I had a very rare Slingshot, not only was it frame and forks, but handlebars also (only 2 ever made).

Was toying with buying this early and fairly rare pedalpower frame. Decided the lack of forks and seat mast repair were enough to put me off. went cheap too  :-\

It is buddy. I am just waiting for a hard to find padset to surface. Persuading someone to give one up is very hard :D

I might swap out the grips and seat yet though, not sure yet. It will depend on the pad set buddy  :daumenhoch:

Great stuff mate, I saw the thread when you started the build and haven't been back since, will go hunt now!!
And good luck with the padset, it's hard enough trying to source some run of the mill stuff these days! you must be a very patient man  :daumenhoch:
