Title: As the nights draw in, what's your Winter project?
Post by: That Swan Guy on September 14, 2015, 06:00 PM
I'm not building anymore but I am going to change this one around. Originally built for the Cleethorpes Ride 2014, I found an original survivor in the same colour shortly after so it's time for a change.

A new colour scheme for one of my bikes. I'm about to commit the cardinal sin of stripping some perfectly good chrome plate and getting a frame powdered.

Nothing new at all for me now, I am all built out.  In fact I will be selling a few of my bikes over the winter.

Same one I've had on the go for the last 3 years   . I'm not the fasted, have gathered a few more parts for it over the summer though (crank, seat, tyres, levers, seat clamp & nice Del custom decals). Be hunting for calipers and wheels this winter - and may finally get the haul of parts to the chromers.

(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/j230/picklez69/IMG_2828_zpse8e820aa.jpg) (http://s81.photobucket.com/user/picklez69/media/IMG_2828_zpse8e820aa.jpg.html)

Then there's this that should really be stripped for a fresh coat of paint, and again some custom Del decals waiting, then replacement on pedals, brake, and maybe seat and post  :-\

Slowly starting to gather parts in case the holy grail (GJS freestyler) suddenly pops up. One sold on ebay last month for a bargain price and i missed it. I quite fancy doing an extra burner too, but not done anything about it yet...

Hopefully get the last few bits for the Silver Streak, get a rear caliper for the Robbo, and replace the one I painted myself. Get a caliper and chain for my Aero Reflex and finish that, then hopefully save some cash for the first build of the New Year, which I think will be an SE, Torker, TA or something nice like that.

Liking the shed McQueen, I'm thinking of doing a wooden shed with a decent flat roof and full lining for keeping the temperature even next year for my bikes and stuff.  Probably be a little smaller than your one but I quite like the style.

Thanks Marty C, when you come to build it look into SIPS - Structural Insulated Panel System - quicker and cheaper than stud work and insulating yourself. Bought a great kit off a seller on ebay, works out a third cheaper than traditional builds.

SIPS looks great but it is incredibly expensive over here, I'm going to investigate it further and I have a few Ideas around design but need to get them approved by the missus!

It is. I'm building an identical Kiwi brother for it, so I have the pair for '88. Thats the frame and bars sitting in front of the prostyler.

My winter project is restoring Mikku's Trident for him while he's back over in Japan.. guess i've got approx 4 years to get it done.  ::)

While the cat's away the mice will play! :daumenhoch:

With the Trident left in Dave's capable hands, I need to get these 2 done and dusted:-

(http://i1132.photobucket.com/albums/m572/Trident393/Free%20Agent/FA2nd016.jpg) (http://s1132.photobucket.com/user/Trident393/media/Free%20Agent/FA2nd016.jpg.html)

(http://i1132.photobucket.com/albums/m572/Trident393/BMX%20Stuff/Moto7-1.jpg) (http://s1132.photobucket.com/user/Trident393/media/BMX%20Stuff/Moto7-1.jpg.html)

So I can make a start on this:-

(http://i1132.photobucket.com/albums/m572/Trident393/BMX%20Stuff/Tange%20004.jpg) (http://s1132.photobucket.com/user/Trident393/media/BMX%20Stuff/Tange%20004.jpg.html)

That should keep me busy for the next 2 winters at least! :D

Lovin the Freeagent... what's the availability of parts like in Japan ?

Almost non-existent, which is why I end up sourcing stuff from the States or on here! :daumenhoch:

Actually, that's not strictly true because you can find old school stuff here it's just that it's already been found, if you get what I mean, so is either for sale by the old school shops or otherwise on display on their walls and ceilings. I think I read somewhere that when the locals cottoned on to the resurgence of interest in old school bmx they mineswept all the old bike shops to gather up any remaining old stock. That, coupled with the fact that most of the stuff was exported bitd and (I'm generalizing here) the Japanese don't tend to keep old stuff due to lack of space, means there's not a lot left to be had. Thumbs down

That said, it's handy having Ian from Natsukashi BMX just up the road in Tokyo.
