Title: Chrome plate past it, or just crap to begin with?
Post by: Bfellows on September 26, 2015, 03:55 PM
I've been tinkering again.......... given this a good citric bath followed by a healthy dose of finger action with the Peek and its still shite.  It was fairly rough to start with, but the closer I look at it the chrome looks to have been crappy to start with?  I was hoping not to have it powdered, but looks to be past its best?

Any thoughts?
Bert

Not much point putting any more elbow grease into it mate. Even though myself and Martin Dingle have had great success with Mothers metal polish after a dip. (Get ya thumb under it!)

Problem with the dipping a lot of guys should bear in mind.

Once the chrome has broken down and began to rust the 'seal' on the raw metal of the frame is already broken.

So like my GT Mach one, it came up well sminkee but the worst areas stripped back to bare metal and quickly tarnished.

Nothing you can do but either protect it with a waxy polish or repaint/ rechrome it.

Sorry. SBD might be getting it.

BUT the other areas came up SWEEET
