Its just a regular DP freestyler , it is the later model with the straight chainstays and DP cutout ,85 i think .....
-
yeh..what Jay said...the Glyn Lewis model in the bronze colour had the dp cutout and cable guides, then they incorporated it into the normal ones.
Looks like the forks are slightly bent backwards?
-
cheers guys,
i may have put the forks the wrong way round :D
-
I think the Glyn Lewis model had GL cutout in the frame instead of DP , I've just noticed yours looks like it has a hole drilled in the toptube , i'm sure the GL had the cable routed through the frame to the rear brake in the same place , but i know people used to drill them out them selves aswell , I'll leave it to the DP experts .???
-
As said before its a DP firebird freestyler GL plus model.
Just like mine, the decals on the forks are from the standard freestyler though, the forks should have a hole in them on the front for the cable too.
Here's one I've just restored.

I don't think the chrome one is a GL unless the hole for the rear brake cable exit is toward the bottom of the seatstay (as Del's). I suspect Jay is correct and someone's just drilled the top tube to run the cable.

there are 3 holes on that tube. one near the rear dropout, one near the head tube and one near the seat tube.
not checked the forks yet

I still think the Glynn lewis frames had GL cut out above the brake bridge /platform , just from memory , can anybody confirm that , I might be wrong , but its bugging me now , i've got to know :-\
-
No it didnt Jay, it just had the dp cut out, I can scan an advert from an old BMX Action Bike if you'd like?
EDIT - I've taken a pic of the double advert taken from April '85. You cant make out the DP cutout from the crap pic but read the last paragraph.

Cheers Del ,Thanks for that pic , nice one .....
I still say there was a Glynn Lewis Dp freestyler , Maybe it was the bronze coloured one , that had GL cut out in it , anybody got any shots of that ......Maybe i dreamt it ;D won't sleep tonight now ;D
-
It was bronze Jay...not sure about the cut-out tho'
-
Looks like the Ni-Bronze one was just a Ltd Edition and not a GL model? Check out the position of the CB hanger though? ...... and it had a 'dp' cut-out as well, I think you must of dreamt it Jay. ;)

thanks for the pic del. love them old ads ;D
says available in white or chrome. im off to check the forks now. ;)
-
ok i ve checked the forks and there is no hole on the front of the forks for the cables >:(
the cable holes on the frame are where they should be but with the addition of one hole near the seat tube ???
i dont mind either way cos ive been after a DP for yonks but it would be nice to id it correctly.
TVM in anticipation
