Hi all
I ve tracked down an 83 531 Quadangle almost identical to my bike from BITD, I now have to be sensible so I need advice as I don't want my pants pulled down over the price although I understand what its worth to me etc.
So here a brief rundown on spec to get an idea of WIW
1983 Reynolds 531 quad refinished in its original colour with original decals
period parts
Kasimax seat
Tange head set
Tufnec stem
Tuff 2's (late 80's ) with alloy hubs
SE bars
diacomp seat clamp
Diacomp brakesE
Repop/NOS parts
Crank
Free wheel
chain
Tyres
It's had 2 owners from new
and is in first class condition
Cheers for any imput

those tyres :wtf:
:LolLolLolLol:

well the tuffs certainly aren't late 80's with alloy hubs, they brought out the plastic hubs in 1985....are you sure its not modern sealed tuffs with "kool kaps" or the anniversary ones?
and they are cw or copy type bars, not se....
and is it a reproduction kashimax?? and is it the modern version of the headset or a genuine 300/303/320??
all this can make a big difference to the value.

Hi Workshyfop
All these things I'm not sure of that is why I'm asking for advice/help from more experienced people with much more trained eyes than me. I had my bikes over 30 years ago and although I think my memories of that time are still sharp it was along time ago. The bars are CW my mistake, the headset is again said to be the genuine article. Seat post I dont know but it looks like a CW to me.
Cheers
Peter

It all looks very repop to me

Are the forks stamped?
Might give a clue

Will he pull your pants back up for that price too?
-
Cheers guys I have told the guy good luck but not for me.
So now it's on with building one. I have sourced a F&F so any pointers on best way forward would love to go go all original stuff, but I'm sure that will be a never ending process. whats the feeling on a mix of original/Nos & repop and have less stress?
Cheers
Peter

If you want to avoid a never ending process, best advice I can think of is to take time to find exactly which bits you want on it. Might take a bit longer at first (& cost a bit more than repop) but once built you won't feel the need to swap bits so much & if you ever do sell on parts they're likely to have depreciated less.
Of course it's entirely your call (& it's hard to be patient sometimes :teef: ) but you'll appreciate the end result more if you get it exactly how you want it.
You planning on riding the thing?
-
Hi Griff
Thanks for the input.
I may well ride it now and again but it will be on hi days and holidays!
Some of the parts I'll never get quite right as my memory is failing (47) and I upgraded stuff all the time so can quite remember everything.
I'm very new to this lark and just feel with limited knowledge and contacts I won't be able to source some of the bits. My stem for instance was a Hutch item but with the H milled out of the top in standard typeset not the Western style I only ever saw two of these, the one I bought from Alpine sports/Action Notting Hill and the other they had on display. My Bars were VDC the large ones the last time I can see any changed hands (using web searches ) was in 2013.
I suppose this is all part of the journey.

The more time you spend here and floating round other forums/pages/eBay the more if these elusive parts you will come across. You may have to dig deep for the likes of VDC bars and Hutch deep H stems but they do come up. :daumenhoch:
You build it how you want tho mate it's your bike. :daumenhoch:

Thanks C lips
I just wish I had not got rid of all of my stuff, I did that in 1990 when I moved into my first flat! Cleared all my (Old shite) out of my parents place. What was I thinking!!! :idiot2: :idiot2:

You're not on your own there mate... we all feel the same. :(

VDC bars are not as hard to come by as you might think....just pricey when they do come up. Voris Dixon is still making stuff today, it may be worth getting in touch...I had a pair of VDC freesyle bars made a couple of years ago....they are identicalto the originals apart from the date stamp :daumenhoch:
-
Hi Deeman
do you have their contact details?
Cheers
