The frame is a 18.5TT Thruster, cranks are 170mm Shimano, 20" wheel, and it's for my 6 year old Daughter.
Do I use 39/16, or 39/17 :-\
What do you recommend please Guys ???

fixing 39T front, the larger the teeth number on the rear freewheel the easier the pedalling gear is, so quicker to get going but more or rapid rotations to maintain speed. as i normally run 44t/16t or 45t/16t i would guess 39t/16t is the one for a generally easier gear range...
see wot any of the other guys recommend.......

I would say 39/16 would be fine.

G has 39/16 on the Auburn with 165's, she zips off with that! (Jogging to keep up on the school run is not a fun way to start the day!) :daumenhoch:

Try the 17 first and see how she does. I think easiest is the way to go until they get used to a new bike, then you can increase the speed potential when ready. It depends how flat your terrain is too.

Terry my 7yr old daughter is running 39/16 but I would drop a 17 on first like Ben says mate. When she wants a bit more speed change it to a 16 :daumenhoch:

I bow to Jedi master Spen's knowledge

never mind the gearing - is she going to fit on a 20" bike?

It's what he uses himself. ;D

Thanks for the assist Guys, I appreciate it :daumenhoch:
One of the reasons I ask is, I want to get her a White Ind freewheel, and at £55 each, I want to get the right one ;D

White ind free wheels are top notch quality indeed. For a six year old who isn't racing I'd say it's over top bruv.
A good 17t like Shimano or acs or my preference suntour is good enough.
You'll probably be ditching the 17t when she gets used to it or grows anyways!
Now if she takes up racing the extra reliability and serviceability of the white freewheel will be worth it.
Just sayin bro not being orrible ok?

For general everyday use, i either use a dicta or sturmey archer freewheel. I'm 10 1/2 stone, and have had them fitted to a few of my riders for 5 years with no problems

If you are going for a White Ind freewheel I'd go for a 16t and use a 36t or 38t chainring, stronglight 110 bcd £10 a pop.
