Hi all, getting into this bike stuff again, and after a couple of years enjoying my mint MK2 Grifter, I fancied an old School BMX.
Seen a few about, many copies and have used the search facility here to reserach as much as I can. But is there any way of telling from a serial number on a frame how old the bike/frame is?
Been offered a Falcon Freestyler with the frame number CS10804994. I initially figured it was a 90's bike as it has the rear loop at the stem of the seat mount section whereas 80's variants I have seen havent got this.
Any ideas?

Been offered money back if its not a genuine rather than a later knock off... but would rather check with those in the know!
-
......Been told honestly that the non original bits are the stickers and the seat, I might add.....
-
Welcome to rad no idea about Falcons but someone will help :daumenhoch:
-
no idea what that is, but it definitely looks 90s to me and parts look fairly low spec.
not sure what the guy wants for it but if it's very cheap it might do you as a rider

Been offered it pretty cheap buddy, ..... but only really want a genuine 80's or mid 90's bike really.... hence trying to gauge the rough year...

:welcome to :radbmxsmilie: :daumenhoch:
I know nothing about Falcon BMX, guess it must be pre 95 as it has a 1" Headset.

you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig!
If you want a cheap looking, heavy, fugly bike go with it. If you hold your horses and do some research I'm pretty sure you'll find the bike of your dreams :daumenhoch:

You're lucky, :D
-
Lol thanks folks, no I havent bought it yet.
It seemed a cheap buy, and whilst I am not looking for a top notch best brand bike (I spend too much on my car collection to have much left over!!!) I just want a nice genuine 80's or very early 90's bike.... but as I say, a nice one not a crap-heap. All input gratefully received and taken on board :)
-
..........incidentally its been for sale for a while but all of a sudden its gone!
Wonder if someone here has bought it ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Not unless they need a new radiator!
-
I can tell you this. Its a mass produced frame from Taiwan that sold under multiple brands, anyone selling one always chooses to say its a falcon as its the name with the most old schol street cred, chances are it was actually a ninja street twister or something equally as gay.
and finally the seat you have is off a Lew-Ways Aero Stinger, no value to it unless you can find someone thats restoring one of the 3 known in the UK, even then its only worth a tenner

Correct, I havent.... but in the last few minutes SOMEONE has it seems! ;)
-
theres always a gullible :bellend: to buy these bags o shite isn't there?
-
Thumbs down does the seller have any MKII Burners? ???
-
Would ideally like something like this... not necessarily a top top brand, but just a clean genuine early bike...
http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/raleigh/26876/1
or even this........
http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/falcon/85079
........ which is currently for sale actually!

And how much is he asking fot that ?
-
£250 ...... Which I'd rather add a hundred on and step up a gear
-
Is it a freestyler you're after ?
-
£250! No where near that , parts dont even add up to that.
£320 posted and you could have had my dyno! Much better parts on that, would ride loads better then that as well.

Best advice I can think of..
BE PATIENT!
Stick around here, take time to do some research into what you like the look of & see what comes up
Decent stuff does pop up now & again & you can always ask questions - there are loads of people on here with serious knowledge (not me :LolLolLolLol: )
-

As I say, not necessarily just after a good original BMX nothing too high end at all but something 80's or early 90's.
Seen a nice Extra Burner refurbed with almost all original or NOS parts for £300 - that's pretty nice
There's an awesome Redline on EBay but it's £600 which is a bit out of my budget! I can't justify that much as I say when I spend out on the cars mainly.
Not adverse to a light resto myself either.... Nothing too much tho as this is my first toe in the water with BMX's.... Hence the cry for assistance so I don't buy a lemon!!
-
The original bike in question WAS a 1992 Falcon Styler, but as said before it is a generic pos frame that got stickered up as loads of things including Townsend etc. Probably Hi-Tensile and pretty heavy.
Burners are not much better and crap to actually ride. If you look long enough and run all your possibilities by the folk on here first you should end up with something half decent. Like anything...you get what you pay for in most cases, and £300 is not a lot...even to build a budget bike. Don't get your pants pulled down through ignorance!
The Dyno everyone else was talking about would have been ideal and was indeed a bargain.

Sounds good, shame it's gone.
I reckon £400 is my limit for a first one..... Remembering I also still have the Grifter too so can't ride them both all the time ;)
Looking forward to learning from u all. There isn't much anyone can teach me about my cars and in particularly building aircooled VW's but in the BMX world I don't mind admitting I'm a bit green at the price range I'm looking for.
Of course I've read up on all the top end makes like the Hutch's of this scene etc...... But best for my budget for now is what I'm after!
-
£400 is a lot better than £300...for the money I would look at early 90's stuff rather than 80's .
Dyno's are a good brand to look out for as the early 90's ones look like the 80's ones essentially but the prices are not too mad....Good quality too. There are also 90's mongoose such as the Villain and a lot of other half decent stuff. Look for a cromoly rather than steel frame or you will end up with something about as heavy as your Grifter which won't be fun to ride! :daumenhoch:

This kinda thing...

or this ...

Mongoose Villain I mentioned earlier...

You may even pick up something like a retro PK Ripper for decent enough money...I know someone that had one for sale a little while ago for £150 odd.....loads of choice.
Guaranteed once you ride a half decent BMX you won't want to ride the Grifter much!

That villain looks nice although it's almost 2000 which is much later than I was after.
What size is that Dyno??
Thanks for the tips, been trawling through eBay and gumtree. Would rather buy through the forums as probably better but I'm keeping all options open

Heres my dyno , its being held for someone at the moment but let me know if its any good to you, and if it falls through i can let you know

95/96 Diamondback Venoms ride nice, can be found fairly cheap and look old school. They have threaded forks, so take a standard old school headset
