I,ve just tried to fit a potts bolt to my NOS S/R handlebar stem but it won,t fit,its to wide?is there another slimer version onf the bolts or do i have to change the stem?
-
potts bolt needs to be wider than a standard bolt to allow the cable to fit though it. you will need to drill out the stem hole to a suitable size.
-
i've always had to drill the top of the stem wider to get the bolt to fit -done this on sr stems since the '80s-dont know if you'll want to do this with a nos stem though
-
I can take the stem to a machiners after the hols and get it drilled, but i may look for an upgrade,i like the GT mallet type like this.

But i don,t like the price much!
Is it the full inner length that needs drilling or just the start?
-
just the top few mil needs drilling out mate-you'll be able to do it in 5mins yourself. :daumenhoch:

Thanks chaps, just looking at it theres a sleeve at the top about 5mm can that be drafted out from the inside or is it a drill job only?
-
Some stems only need 1-2mm drilled out to fit the potts mod bolt. :)

Fire a pic or two up before you do anything :daumenhoch:

All done took my time and now the potts bolt is fitted..
Had a NOS ACS gyro given to me today aswell but not sure if it will fit my Burner?,looks great but not sure if its going to fit?
I was going to go down the route of longer cables and the potts bolt setup,a pic of the exact way the cable should be routed and fixed to the front caliper would be handy.

You need to route it down the inside or outside of the fork and loop it up to reach your caliper. You will probably need to hold it in place with a tie or two or Velcro straps. I will get a pic of mine tomorrow for you if you are still stuck. What caliper do you have? Has it been modded to accept the cable upside down? The ACS Rotor will fit no problem, you just need to run the stem a bit higher to allow for the travel of the rotor. There should be plenty of images on the net of rotors set up. They are not brilliant and can be a pain to set up but you should be able to achieve decent stopping power with a bit of fiddling :daumenhoch:

I messed about with the adjusters yesterday and everything seemed to fit fine.
