Title: 1996 Heavy Tools Screamer
Post by: Coupes on December 25, 2015, 10:01 PM
Just got this, Heavy tools screamer. Serial number reads HTBO-3.1. Chrome is like new but no transfers. Original parts? Elina UL saddle, Chun Sheng mags, unknown handlebars and stem. Dia compe looking brakes. Wellgo pedals, steel crank and chainwheel. Headset needs looking at, lock nut shot. Will change a few parts and get some decals for it.

Any help much appreciated. I'm more old school and Redline, raced in the early 80s so mid school all new to me.  :daumenhoch:

Sorry no input, but congrats on finding an excellent frame. I ran one for a couple of years and loved it. There's a cover of Ride that features one, but that's as good as my memory gets. You might get some spec clues off of that but I doubt it's how one would be 'out of the box'.

Cheers Wayne! Yep I don't know if someone's built it up or not. Crank standard one price and chainring. Will keep looking.

Pretty much every part is wrong. Should look like this below. Great bikes. Even though all they did was copy Standard with their sh0rty (Screamer) and STA (Ruler).

Have a look here

Thanks Jaymz! Looked in the BMX museum at other bikes. Took some investigation first to find out what it was before I bought it. Looked at Standard first. Will change some bits, cranks, tuffs or build some wheels and see if I can get decals?
The fella I got this off said his son had ridden it twice and got a Mountain bike. When they got it it hadn't been ridden but the then owner removed the decals.

This is how original it looks, original crank and chainring? Like the Heavy Tools ones on later bikes.

That chainring isn't original, they came fitted with KHE chain wheels

Yep I guess I'll be looking for a KHE chainwheel now. Wonder if its something a shop put on? Looks nasty tbh.

Found it was probably sold as a f&f set to shops to build and they put their parts on. Built to a price.
