Hi all,
Sorry my first post is a "please help" post - I plan to stick around - this is why I purchased a frame with a restoration plan.. Now I think ive done the wrong thing!
I have searched and found reference to a frame that I won on ebay last night - J3446358 is the serial number but this is not on the underneath -
[attachment=1]
[attachment=2]
The serial number is on the right rear drop out.
Having searched and found this frame seeming to change hands quite frequently and there a mystery surrounding it I am not sure if I should proceed with the purchase or not..
Any help identifying if this is any good or not would be great. Im apprehensive about buying a cheap "knock off" not only as it would be a waste of time building but if it collapsed while one of my kids were riding it Id be not too happy!
Cheers,
Alan

It's not a Hawk... it's not got the high (burneresque) seat tube like a Scorcher.
Message insectbones (Lee) he's got a very similar if not the same frameset... he's spent a while trying to identify his.. he may have some info for you. :daumenhoch:
:welcome to Rad fatalan. ;)

It's a lovely frame either way. :daumenhoch:

Thanks for the welcome. I will drop Lee a message and get myself turned around on this one. As my first build I am a bit nervous marching into uncharted territory with an element of the unknown. I am half tempted to assemble a bike based on just collecting nice bits. I can always swap the frame at some point in the future.

Site supported - done! Time to get building :D :D (providing this purchase all goes okay of course - if not I will be frame searching!)
-
Looks like a nice frame regardless of what it is, so if the price is right, I'd say buy it! & since it'll be your first build, you needn't be as worried about making a balls-up as you would have been were it a real Rhino! Keep us posted with a build thread if you do buy it! Welcome to Rad!! :daumenhoch:

Yea, what the fook is going on with that seat tube on the Hawk? It looks a nice frameset and the chrome looks mint. The key to whether it is half decent quality or not would be the weight...does it feel light? bit hard to guage...most frames feel light without parts . I am sure some others could offer some weights of some cromoly race frames and if you are able to weigh yours it could be an indicator of whether it is cromo or not :-\

No idea what it is but the welding looks neat.

I've sent the guy a message saying I'll have it. Worse case I can use it as a part holder until I can see another frame I want. It does look a tidy start point and is its a mystery build I can pretty much build it how I want.
I'm thinking a bit of a low budget old school build to be honest - later (cheaper) skyways and so on.
I'll just wait for him to come back to me.

Welcome to Rad Alan, your frame is similar to mine which I still have no idea what it is. Differences that I can see between mine and yours at a quick glance are, my serial is on the BB shell with no letters, my gusset has continuous welds, there are no weep holes on the chain stays, and the brake bridge is slightly different.
Nice looking frame whatever it is :daumenhoch:

Well.. I'm probably going to get shot for this but I have decided that rather than build something with no clear plan (I don't know how it should turn out) I have gone with the easy route and purchased a MK2 1984 Raleigh burner frame. This is my first complete bmx build and the though of not know what to buy was really bothering me.
I pick up the frame tomorrow night.
Its a Super Burner - frame currently chrome with most of the gold removed.. not sure how it will be built up
Cheers for the welcomes! I will go and hide.

Nothing wrong with a Raleigh Burner. 8) Probably 90% of the country had them back in the day. :-\ I had a Raleigh. Everyone can relate to them. :) At least with a complete you can take it to bits (make notes) and then put it back together again. Learning at the same time. :daumenhoch:

I would have stuck with the original frame, Whatever it is it's cooler than a Burner. If it is a Tange copy at least it will have decent geometry...unlike the Burner :-\
I would be tempted to sticker it up as a Tange anyway...and build it. You wouldn't have to spend a fortune using repop parts. Retrodan72's Diamond Back is a lesson in getting the right look without breaking the bank :daumenhoch:

Out of curiosity, how much was this frame?
-
£120 was the price.

I've paid for it so hopefully its not sold twice. I paid more than that for it too..
-
I will say no more except he has paid me my refund. I wish the new buyer good luck.
