What's the crack ( no pun intended ) ?
There's a lot being banded around about them on face ache, all the pros used them , blah, blah blah... So who DID actually ride them back in the day ?
I'm only asking because IMO , they are a road hub. A pretty one , but a weak ,road bike hub?
-
I may be wrong but didn't one of the jmc lads use them ?or am I talking complete shite

Carl, on his Judge.
The guy who built my wheels at Graham Weigh Cycles (reputed builder of road bikes), said they were lovely to look at, but cracked on road bikes, so doesn't know how the same design would take the punishment from a BMX.
-
Nail on head Dan.
On a show bike , or to cruise around on ...yeh I get it, stunning hubs , but did pros run them BITD ? And if so who?
-
I'd say the JMC boys probably had them but don't know who. Like most things that were shit bitd if they were paid to race with them they'd use them and smile at the same time.
-
I believe our very own Darren wood rode them back in the day
clive gosling and winnie wright also
so a little Dickie bird tells me
-
I believe Darren did at some point😉

Mike King, Billy Griggs, Winnie Wright, Woody, Clive Gosling.
They weren't that popular, they were used by those that wanted something a little different or who would go the extra mile to trick their bikes out.
All the names above have tight links with shop team/sponsorships also. Winnie, Woody and Clive all had strong links with Edwardes in London. Edwards have strong roots in road as well as BMX . Note, Clive's family own Edwardes in London.
Other Campy hubs were much more common.
-
Don't think they came out till 85 either.
-
Not a big fan myself, think they look a bit out of place on a bmx
-
be honest, they are the twee-ist looking hubs you could put on a bmx, they even sound gay
-
My thoughts exactly Rob and Si.
Alright for a bit of Bling , but that's it. If TOWIE did hubs...
-
Can't comment on their practicality/durability, but they look great :)
-
I love them , don't own a set but looks wise they are one of my favourites . I can understand the concerns regarding durability on a BMX though . There's one thing with campagnolo stuff , there design and attention to detail is up there with the best imo.

I had to look up what TOWIE meant and then what the show was as well.
That aside, to compare that with Campagnolo... You've obviously never owned any...
-
I cant knock their aesthetic and their quality, a well serviced campag track hub will oulast all of us, maybe even a Toyota Hi-Ace but if any proof were needed of their femininity on a bmx....I built some up for Dubber
-
Campy stuff looks ace ... Perfect for a show bike ... On a BMX track .. Hmmm? :chin:

TOWIE is a bit unfair.
If they were a band they'd be Erasure, excellent but a bit camp (ag) :surprise:

Good gag :LolLolLolLol:
Campag components are fantastic examples of precision engineering - I just don't get the comparison with pond life ???

Funnily enough they came to me. When I met up with Woody, it turned out they were owned by him, he got them from Clive Gosling who got them from Winnie Wright (RIP) - kinda ties a lot of the comments in this thread together...

Have been talking to Joff about Campy stuff at length... It is totally gorgeous...
Definitely thinking I want some for my Quad build ... Joff introduced me to the Tipo hubs which I think are equally stunning... Just seen these on eBay ... If only they were gold.. Lush stuff!

Back when I first started working at Heff's Bike Shop Campag track gear was quite popular for people looking for something different but mostly the Gran Sport or Record ranges as they were popular for track racing so readily available The Sherrif Stars were quite late to bmx but had been on the track scene for a few years, apparently Campagnolo are making them again so be aware of what you are buying.
This is a useful blog on them
