Hi guys need some advice - What brands / Models would be considered some of the best BMX 'Race' bikes from around 90 - 94?
At present I own
2 x Auburn CR20RXs
Hyper Metro
Cyclecraft
TNT Pro
2 x Robinson Pro and SST
(Hopefully very soon) a Boss Racing
I would appreciate any opinions or feedback your willing to share
-
Lets have look at em then. :daumenhoch:
-
Nice selection you already have. Pretty much the creme of mid racing.
Ive got a soft spot for the haro's of that era, this is my brothers

Robinson Amtrak? not sure though if it was the same as your two??
GT Interceptor as well??
-
Elf Doublecross XL
S&M Challenger
Freeagent Limo
I have raced quite a few mid school bikes but the TNT beats them all IMO :daumenhoch:
-
Lee you already own the best ... forget the rest fistblump :D fistblump

S&M Holmes
Revcore
-
all the ones mentioned are pretty much bang on the money, but the HAWK frames and Supercross rode fantastically well too.
for exotica you should keep an eye out for such pretty things as; Kastan UniBlades, Technique, ACE Holeshot, the USA Rebel Racing.
grossly under appreciated and the best frameset SE ever made (IMO) the Assassin, its got a landing gear toptube ferfooksakes, what more could you want??????????? (unfortunately the XL rode shite compared to the pro but looked the bollox)
there was a mongoose, with a similar seat stay set up to the challenger, out around then too along and a Titan with the same set up, which are both nice and rarely seen frames.
-
Auburns
-
Robinsons
Black one is undergoing a transformation back to white better equipment etc
-
Cyclecraft
-
MCS very underrated , and very well made Magnum 37,is what most people would go for ,
but if you can get one a Magnum XLX is a better frame set, the 89 to 90 XLX's are about the best frames MCS produced at the time , ride real nice, and not to many about ;) ;) :daumenhoch:
-
Hyper metro
Currently undergoing a slight transformation (waiting on parts)
-
TNT Pro
-
Earlier Haro Group One
-
Get some silver seat guts on my old Auburn Lee FFS fistblump fistblump fistblump
-
Ed you supplied a GT micro shortly afterwards but that bike is now held in Fort Knox so I can't access it easily to get new pictures of it
-
Hyper making slow progress (due to the postman)
-

I had an aurbun cr20, but my dad took it to the tip without telling me after I moved out :crybaby: I only hope that it lives on with someone else.
-
Now that would have made me cry :crybaby:. I'm going to hang around the tip every few days now
-
Took this picture earlier going to need a bigger room!
Thanks for all the feedback on the bikes I'm definitely going to look out for them all mentioned if luck is on my side I will add them to the collection very soon
-
I own both Hyper and Cyclecraft, both are top notch, you are missing this one, Freeagemt Limo, this is an 87 Pro Long but later ones are pretty much the same, really good to ride, modern geometry :daumenhoch:

The Free Agents look great mate let me know if you are selling anytime
-
Mongoose solution.
-
In my opinion all the GT brands (GT, Powerlight, Robinson, Auburn) were very average bikes unless you look at the very high end models. The Pro Series XL, CR20 RX, P61 XL, and Amtrac were all brilliant bikes. The rest of them I definitely wouldn't consider to be some of the "best" bikes of the era.
If you consider "best" to be bikes that rode well and won races then the list will look something like this:
GT Pro Series XL - Gary Ellis dominated on this bike for years.
S&M Holmes - The privateers choice and Pistol Pete was one of a few who chose this bike over everything else.
Hyper Metro - Eric Carter won the National Title on a Metro Pro. Brian Foster made loads of mains on an XL.
Mongoose Solution - Fuzzy Hall and Brian Lopes definitely had success on these.
Redline RL740 (Kastan Made) - Mike King did well on these but he probably would have done well on anything.
+ And of the top end GT brands mentioned above.
If you consider "best" to simply be the most popular or desirable bikes then the list would most likely be very different depending who you speak to. :daumenhoch:
-
Mongoose solution.
that's the one I think, was it Fuzzy Hall? (or something similar) who rode one?

might dig one out this summer n have a jump about, aint been on a bike for exactly 2 years this month
-
Nice to see you have still got some proper good bikes in the stable. :daumenhoch:
-
cheers dude, whittled all the bikes I have ever had down to the best riders, the 3 mid (the hyper was a close 4th followed by the revcore) the new school was a necessity and is probably what killed my interest in riding, you can not match a decent mid race bike for thrill riding on a track, the 2011 Clayborn is a great solid bike and nice to ride but has yet to keep a smile on my face, coz I am a miserable bastard, lol
-
Daz you kept the cream dawg!
I'm looking forward to geting out of these fooking indoor skateparks and giving a track some time on the TNT this year :daumenhoch:

Personally you have to have a s&m in your collection
be it a Holmes, mk1,mk2 or mk3
Mk1
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/1003/escrs/bikes/DSC_0244_zps56d222d5.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/escrs/media/bikes/DSC_0244_zps56d222d5.jpg.html)
Mk2

Mk3

Or even a Mk1 Challenger

quite a collection going now, some great bikes :daumenhoch:
there is no way on this earth you would have had that Boss a couple of years ago, I would have jumped on it instantly. I was amazed how long it took to sell, awesome bike :daumenhoch:
-
will have to add that I quite like the fact that you did not fall into the S&M trap and looked outside the box :daumenhoch: but will have to concur that you should really have one in your haul. I personally like the MK2 holmes n the challengers :daumenhoch:
a freeagent would not go amiss either.
enjoy the slippery slope and empty pockets :LolLolLolLol:
-
Gotta love an Assassin :smitten:
-
Lee is fast gathering the best collection of mid race bikes in the UK!
-
I do own a Holmes but not one of the good ones unfortunately (for now). Couldn't give this one away on Ebay even at £200 (which surprised me)
-
Even the Eldest (10 years old) is getting in on the mid race game now with his latest build I hope you like it

Its funny you should mention that as tyres in general is my current priority for making era correct. Those are Cult Deharts and are definitely coming off but I'm on the look out for some new ones could do with a bit of advice as to what to look out for?

Can any of you fine people tell me what forks these are from the picture? I'm selling this and have been asked to confirm. I bought them as S&M genuine with the frame but don't know the exact type (pitch forks etc) thanks
-
Yep Pitchforks, earlier 1inch decals :daumenhoch:
-
Awesome, what forks are they?
-
The forks have the A logo (answer?) and appear to be carbon

Mid school race update...
Thanks to everyone on here that contributed to this post I've since been able to collect the following most of which are bikes I actually never knew existed!
1994 & 1995 Auburn CR20RX
Hyper Metro
Cyclecraft
TNT Pro
1990 & 1992 Robinson (Pro and SST)
Hawk F20 XXL
Boss Primetime
SE Racing Assasin
Powerlite P61
Kastan Pro XL (square back)
I still live in hope that I'll find an Elf Pro XL, Freeagent Limo and a Supercross SX250 this year
And following the good advice of mr (Ed) Chester I've slowly sold my old school collection to make way for these bikes that are by far better built and look 100% better IMO
-
that is a fine quivver Robin!
and it was good advice as everyone who reads the Mid School posts knows ... old school bikes are boring as f**k
;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

Lovely bikes s&ms but are the mid equivalent to rippers n haros, its the less known bikes that excite, your R&R is a classic example
There's loadsa cool mid stuff out there that gets overlooked n its great to see em

There was a guy racing one of these in about 92 when i was still riding my Ripper Loopy.
This would be my dream build if money allowed and i could actually find one
[attachment=1]
Although i think id swap the Spins for Chrome Ukai/GT Superlace

I second that I spotted one of those on the museum a while back and was really impressed by it and I search every now and again for one but those Haro frames must have been sold in very low numbers as they hardly ever show up!

powerbend bars and yellow Jives ... sexy!
