Hi guys, thought i should sign up and get more familiar.
I picked up my first old school bike a while back as a project, a Diamond Back Silver Streak circa 87, but have just passed that onto a mate to finish after getting it rechromed as had a deal lined up on a StreetBeat and Performer, but it fell through so on the hunt for a new project :)
-
:welcome to :radbmxsmilie: .... Enjoy the site .
Let's see some photos . :daumenhoch:

Will get one up, i never took any post chrome though but will ask my mate.
Just trying to persuade my mate who owns Shiner to part with something out of their personal collection, think i may have my work cut out ;)

This was the Diamond Back, hopefully my mate will get it further than i did.
-
That looked a nice project :)
-
Yeah I was looking forward to it, I found it on a farm where my friend has a unit but re chroming costs put it over the top cost wise so cut my losses and always preferred freestyle anyway :)

Still thinking about this StreetBeat and Performer i was offered, any good guidance with values?
StreetBeat is complete, non original paint and bars but the rest looks good, mid 80's
Performer also mid 80's, complete apart from brakes/wheels, non original paint
Any advice most welcome.

Looks like i have done the deal on the streetbeat and gt, pics to follow.
I have been told the Gt is a performer but would like to clarify, what are the areas to look at to identify?

Welcome to Rad mate,
The performer should have GT stamped on the rear of the top tube which extends beyond the seat tube or better still GT 4130 if it is a pro performer. The early ones all pretty much look the same, I think they changed in '88. try and put some pics up, you will need a photobucket or similar account. :daumenhoch:

Ok guys, collected and noted some numbers:
The Streetbeat has stamped on the bottom bracket, skyway made in the usa (faintly)
serial number: 0025778 as far as i can make out (sprayed too many times)

And the GT
Really difficult to read but stamped on rear drop out: gh*80*1865, not sure on the 6 and *'s

Thanks, the forks have gt stamped on the bottom with 4130, didnt take much notice of the top tube stamped, will check, any way to identify the year, is it contained in the serial number? I know it doesnt make much difference but would like to know :)

The street beat is a god awful colour!
They both look like good projects and could be easily made into something nice with a bit of time and money spent ( mainly money!)
The Performer looks like a later 86/7 one, probably made in Taiwan, depends on the stamp. Yes, you should be able to work out the year from the serial...someone ore knowledgable should be along soon.
How much money is he asking for both?
-
Welcome to :radbmxsmilie:
Are you actually a Jet Pilot? Only asking as there are a few pilots already on here ;)
-
Hi and welcome to RAD, The Beat looks in good shape but as already stated it needs that colour changing ;D
Looks to have the correct forks as well so bonus :daumenhoch:
-
I bought them both this morning after thrashing out a few week price battle, i was lucky, he had them in a shed which was broken into, they took the mountain bikes but not these so in the end he was so paranoid he let them go for sensible money.
I have no idea why he sprayed the beat that colour, but it will be changed, most likely going to go for classic white powdercoat and thinking i may do the GT the hot pink so long as it ties in the originals were done that colour which i think they were.
Any confirmation of years from the serial numbers?
No not a Jetpilot, its a jetski thing :)

Performer is 88+
-
Thanks :) Just checked it does have 4130 stamped under the GT so guess its a pro performer.

no the pro was double bend by then, unless you have the wrong forks on it

Thanks, will enjoy the info. May i ask how you get to it being an 88?

lower rear brake bridge is 87+ but the front forks are wrong. They are 88+. 87+ Pro Performers had double bend. So it's either an 88/9 Performer or a Vertigo

Great thanks, so ignore the 4130 info relating to it being a pro :)

All that means is that the frame is Cro-Moly and not Tri-moly (main 3 tubes Cro-mo only)

Thanks, another member posted above that if it had 4130 stamped it was a pro performer, not performer. Sifting through the links you posted. Thanks
