Title: Another saved from the scrap heap - Vincent Airzone
Post by: wildon on April 02, 2016, 01:32 PM
Finally got my hands on this. This belonged to an old friend who I used to ride with bitd. It was me on my trick star and him on this everyday for years. Discovered in the back of another friends shed last year after it changed hands a couple of times 25 years ago. Been trying to buy it off him since then and he finally agreed yesterday. Still has some of my old parts that we swapped with each other back then. My Trick Star was stolen years back but getting this feels like the next best thing.

Funny thing is I've just moved house and I'm now just around the corner from my old riding buddy. We haven't spoken in years and are unlikely to again. I know he would jump at the chance of getting this back too. Shame how things turn out sometimes.

Get what you're saying Terry, suppose " as found"  condition describes it better

Green, orange and lavender are the easiest to find, so good news there. Sets come up in great condition for about £80ish

No point getting a set in good condition. Need a trashed set like the rest of the bike!

Rare as fook! Produced by Terry Jenkins in 85/6 along with Space bars. Some were filled with crazy expanding foam, which was meant to give extra strength. It would be very interesting to see if there is any foam inside. It could have course just be a decal. Another way to tell if it's real is it won't have ANY stamps, not even the minimum insertion line... :daumenhoch:

May or may not be Space, only a few sets of bars and posts actually got the foam.

I've an email from TJ regarding that. I'll try and find it.

Quote from: Terry Jenkins
The Foam...this was very high density expandable urethane with the intension of further reducing handle bar flex and increasing strength. Industrial, government regulated stuff. Highly difficult to work with due to the pressures and heat generated. Started as two liquids that mix with a gun. Managed to do several bars and seat posts. Too expensive and difficult however. A friend had the seat post with foam. Still straight after countless years and numerous broken bikes.

Unusual decal that too with the Ramp Riders above and below the Space part... My bars still have the original decals and look a bit different
