Title: Skyway TA
Post by: Gnarlyscoots on July 06, 2016, 09:58 AM
This is my take on the 2013 release of the Skyway TA frame set. Everybody went down the route of fitting retro items to theirs, or trying to make it look and feel old school with old school parts, and even removing the V brake mounts to fit a side pull calliper  :crazy2:

I wanted to go the new school route with mine, as parts are made better, everything is sealed, and I still get to ride a cool frame set.

So here it is  :daumenhoch:

:4_17_5:  like that , good choice to not go  down the retro route with bendy placcy wheels  :daumenhoch:

personally i would only change the wtp crankset ,  nowt wrong with em, great cranks ,i  had a set for  some time, but they are heavy ,  i know "weight weeny,  just pedal harder you poof" :LolLolLolLol:   ,   nice set o chrome profiles for me  :daumenhoch:  are the padals as sticky as they look?  fancied a set for me standard :-\ :-\

I really like the pedals. The pins are not intrusive at all, as I ride in Vans, I was a little concerned that I may feel them through the sole. The platform is the perfect size for feet too. I would recommend them on both those parts, but for durability, I can't say as yet. I have now done about 120 miles on it and they are still good  ;D   :daumenhoch:

Thanks for taking the time to comment guys, I appreciate that  :coolsmiley:

The drive side brake mount is a teeny tad off from the non drive side mount, so I have had a nightmare trying to dial the V brake in, as it either very slightly rubs the rim, or sticks out to far on the drive side. Apart from that though, I love the ride of it and I am very pleased I built it  :daumenhoch:

Rad! Not keen on the bars but overall that's spot on :daumenhoch: who said all new school bikes look the same?!

I had the bars kicking around, and as they are built using 4130 chromoly and the dimensions of NS bars, I thought I would use them and save a bit of money tbh.

They are a good size, just a tad wide, but the grip length allow you to hold the bars closer to the centre  :daumenhoch:

You built it how you wanted it, that's all that matters  :daumenhoch: just came back in for another look, such a rad bike!

Just for kicking around on more than anything. My 'old' TA is all looseball and requires repacking of the bearings far too often, because of the mileage I do on it, and I feel I can throw this about and not worry too much about it, if that makes sense  :D
