I bought this frame set from x600se about 18 months ago to build up for my lad , hopefully using some half decent condition 'rider' bits that I have already .
I've got most of what I need to build it up , but still need a few bits and pieces to finish it off.
As well as the parts I'm short of , I'm not quite 'feeling it' at the moment with what I have so hopefully some suggestions may help ???
I'll fire pics up of what I have after I've recovered from this photobucket session !!!!

It's a pretty good survivor with minimal pitting to the chrome and a little scuffage to the decals. Just needs a little fine wire wool here and there.....

First thing was to make a decision on which wheels to use .
My choices were / are
Silver Araya Aeros / silver hubs (which I thought wouldn't suit )
Blue shiny side Araya 7X ( on another bike atm)
Black alloy hubbed Tuffs

Silver 20x1.5 Araya 7X / Silver Suzue Hubs

Not sure I like the Tuffs on it , same with the 1.5's :-\
Prefer the spokes on it out of the two pictured .... I think .
-
Both the tuffs and the silver Arayas look great, get some more parts fitted before making a decision.
Blue wheels will mean you need a few blue parts such as grips, saddle etc as well as silver/chrome and just black in the tyres.
Also have a look at a few built examples, see which you like the best.
-
I like it on the tuffs....should clean up nice! :daumenhoch:
-
Tuffs for me also
-
Glad to see you are still building mate.. Nice work .. Tuffs for me on this one I'm afraid !
Are you going to MK again this year dude ?
-
:daumenhoch: Araya's for me, keep it shiny. fistblump
-
Nice goose 8)
Spokes for me :daumenhoch: Im not a big lover of Tuffs on any bike though ;D :D
-
Tuffs, Blk Kashimax, Chrome post, chrome bars Black components fistblump

Looks good either way. A good start. 8)
These make great riders. :daumenhoch:

Still got a couple of builds that I intend to finish Ant..... Eventually ::)
The AP is next , it's just came to a bit of a grinding halt recently.
I'll be at MK , just need to wangle the day off at work .

I've got a blue Kashi , plus I can pillage his current bike for some parts if I go with the blue 7X.....

Spokes for me, makes it look light and fast :daumenhoch:
-
Well , I kinda knew the audience would be split on the Spokes vs Tuffs .
I'm not a Tuff hater myself , but I agree that they suit some builds more than others .
As it's a rider for my lad , I'd have liked him to have some input into the build . He's 11 though and I'm not sure I trust his colour coordination yet !!! I'll have to step into the unknown next , get a freestyle frame and let him go wild with his colour scheme.
He probably would prefer me to use the Tuffs tbh as they are different to the norm..... Maybe I'll ask him and then use what I want anyway ;D
-
I'd like this build to turn as if it was a few years old , with the odd upgrade added and parts swapped with mates . There is nothing exotic on my parts shelf , but I've dug out what I think will probably work with either wheel set. I'm going to mock build it as I go and see how it looks.....

The only stems spare I have are a couple of SR MS422 and a 420 . I like the look of the older 420 , but don't really want to use either and I'm on the lookout for a nice rider condition Tuff or Pro Neck stem......

Cheers Chez , think I saw that the other day.... Bit too nice for this maybe.

I bought some GT expert bars for this last year.....

Without fitting them , I wasn't sure they would suit as they are quite wide , so recently acquired these Renthal expert bars just in case.....
(http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae59/JOHNJO74/Californian/DSCF1219_zps5zbzsmgb.jpg) (http://s957.photobucket.com/user/JOHNJO74/media/Californian/DSCF1219_zps5zbzsmgb.jpg.html)
Not sure there is a lot in it , but the Renthals are a bit narrower and probably more suitable for an 11 year old.

What ever you go with your Son is getting one mighty fine rider :4_17_5:
-
A rare event in Manchester , it stayed dry for a few hours today 8) This gave me a chance to put what I have loosely together for some snaps to see how things are looking.
After fitting both , my lad decided on spokes although I think with a few tweaks the Tuffs could work too.
Anyway spokes it is , but here's the pics of both .
Tuffs.....

The chainring set up has been 'borrowed' from an AP I have in progress , so will be coming off . Would like to put something a little different on , perhaps something like a Pro Class disc or similar ?
-
