Title: Hello RAD BMX!
Post by: burnerboy on January 24, 2018, 08:16 PM
Hello all!

First of all let me just say WOW!! all the bikes I have seen posted on here are a credit to you all.
I have just found this forum over the past few weeks as have been  looking up bits and info for a BMX project I am doing at the mo, its probably a bit  of a low spec build to what a lot of you seem to be doing but hey ho.

Few years back I picked up a Raleigh mini burner for the boy at a local vintage rally, stripped down cleaned and polished, he loved it and so did I, that was it I was hooked!! I entered it into the bike section of the same rally the following year and he was star of the show riding around the arena. Anyway he is looking a bit leggy on it now (I think its the small wheels) so have picked up a few others to work on, a Raleigh Styler (red) which when finished will be my ride as bars seem nice and wide and a Raleigh BMX Series for him which I had never heard of but from looking it up seems to be Raleighs last attempt at getting rid of there 80s stock. this one needs decals and have found esemde online do them, has anybody ever used them?

I know the burners where sold in there masses and thus alot less quality to other big names but it brought BMXin to a 8 year old me one xmas and its still in me!!

Cheers guys.

Sounds like you're having great fun already.
Welcome to the forum.
Don't be afraid to get stuck in and ask questions and share your rides with us.
Burners are the bread and butter of bmx. I would say more. Members on here have one stashed away in their collection than don't.

Cheers guys, I will post a few pics once finished, awaiting sand blast and powder coating at the mo.

Hopefully I will find a local ride to me and bring em along.

There was a track back in the day local to me here in gloucestershire, cant remember if it had a name but it was in a place called Stonehouse near Stroud. anybody remember it? was a good track, I might have some pics somewhere.
We lived ab 5 miles away from it but was a cycle track (old railway line) that led us there easy enough. Mum would have to come along on the RSW complete with bag full of goodies! It was her job to work the starting grid and count the laps!

Cheers!

Spen69 thanks for that, I'm around the Stroud area so the Gloucester one would suit. Will go along to that.
Well retrodan72 here it goes, in the collection at the mo I have, Raleigh styler, series and mini burner. I do also have a team burner frame, forks and bars all freshly powder coated but I may be tempted to pass that on as just can't see me ever getting it built. I do have another Raleigh but darnt mention it here!!!

Hopefully I have worked out how to add pics but here is the BMX series just after I picked it up  all looks orig apart from grips and tyres. It is now in bits at work awaiting  it's turn to be blasted and powdered. I know from the pic it looks ok but it had been touched up a lot and with not a great paint match.
It's got a nice front hub which at first I thought someone could have added on, but after doing a Google image search there is another out there the same! Perhaps Raleigh were using up stock.
Cheers guys.
