Title: The first Radster you met.
Post by: rooski on March 03, 2018, 09:19 AM
Shortly after joining the forum (2008 ish)I made a trip to my local track, Bradford Bandits after learning there was an Old school racing scene.

I ended up talking to a friendly chap, and the conversation steered towards old school.

The guy was BALDBMXER (JJ)

Top guy, been mates ever since  :daumenhoch:

So who did you meet 1st  ???

Good thread Roosk.

I met Bretty in 1985 and rode a few times with him.

As in forum members, it was the one and only Sweetbeats in 2011, with Mani at Chester Station.

I was a closet builder, stuck in the outer reaches of Anglesey and tried to get to a number of rides but work decided otherwise. I bought a NS GT 24" frame set off Brett and when he recognised my address as RAF Valley (he was then in too) and his brother was based there we got talking and finally met up with him, RetroDanielle and Wini at MK. Brett walked me round introducing me to everybody and the rest as they say is loads of bikes and no cash  :LolLolLolLol:

It was John (Pooch) that I first spoke to on my first London ride a few years ago. Also had a good chat with Matt (Swivel) on that ride too. A great bunch of guys on the old London rides

Great thread!

Before I’d even built my first bike....

Hutchman Dave kindly invited me round to his house so he could help (that tradition has continued with every bike since)

Brettypeeps went to the trouble of lending me one of his brand new Rippers for the evening at a Rad lock-in in Corby - he didn’t even bat an eyelid when I ran out of skill and decked it (another tradition that continued  :D )

Met Ed, Lenny, Munny Mark and (very briefly Pickle) that night as well

No place like  :radbmxsmilie:

Bought some tat off a bloke up the road from me on eBay - the ginger bearded Dordy. He told me and my brother we weren't alone and there was this weird blue website called Rad full of even weirder blokes ???

Spoke to loads on the forum once I joined but first bloke I met was when I dropped some o/s guff off at the one and only crisp-eating monster Si Cupid stunt's house. He told me about a meet-up in Milton-keynes and the rest is history :idiot2:

By the next year i'd been buying and selling stuff all round the UK and knew loads of faces at MK. Paul DB250 decided we were drinking till dawn and the helipad all-night sessions began :2funny:

The first Radster I ever met was Retrodan72 at Flint train station on the Chester ride in 2012. The poor coont has been putting up with me ever since. It was Brettypeeps after Dan.

I found out about the ride on the dp page on facebook. I signed up when I got home and I’ve had some right laughs on the forum and on the rides.

Tbh Paul, I thought you were a bit of a odd one turning up on a Chopper with a carrier bag of cans on your handlebars. You've given me some great chuckles over the past 6 years though mate and I'm chuffed you turned up that day.

what a great thread.  I have know Dan for years.  It must have been the boardroom I met the Radsters.  Must be about 10 years ago.  Ed209, Pickle, Macmania, Quadrophenia and Bubbs amongst others.

I have seen some great friendships formed out if these kids bike and RAD and have introduced some great people to the hobby.

I came away from that hooked on the hobby with a dozen new mates.

Paul Selwood aka Stuntmaster; came round to fix my cooker in 2003 and then again in 2004...

Lived across the road from Tony DaButcher on BMX Talk one night after signing up in late 2004/early 2005, got chatting about living in Iver Heath, he asked where as he did, I said my street and he said no f-way as he lived in that street too and then we worked out that we were about 10 houses up the street from one another  :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:

I can’t remember the first radster that i met, but it was at Radchester 2011. I got lucky on that ride and met a bunch of top radsters including Retrodan, Rick1970, Rich Clean, Crazy Craig, JT, Matt and Sam Meticulous. Joff, Lenny Badbaldie and Torkerdude 180 (Tony Lee) were there too, but i only spoke to them briefly, if at all. I’m certain Clint oldschoolace was there too, but i didn’t speak to him for the first time until 2016

Living in Japan and making only infrequent trips back to Blighty, means I’ve only met half a dozen or so Radsters but fittingly, the first batch was on my one and only visit to MK in 2015. I sold some parts to Sen (skidmark) and Mark (Hmoon27) then met fellow Trident-fan Dave (Hutchman), who I’ve remained good friends with ever since. :daumenhoch:

I joined RAD knowing absolutely no one, one top guy posted on my newbie threads as he lived in Southampton too. I popped over to his shortly after to see his stuff.

That guy was Phil Sawzall  8)

Shortly after, I was really looking for bikes and he offered me a complete DB Harry Leary Turbo for £600, I kindly refused as i didn't have the funds. 😔 What a fool I was 😢😢
